My name is Madeline Ocamb and I am running for the Class of 2016 Senate. I have enjoyed growing up with the class of 2016 and am proud to be a member of such an accomplished group of students. Toward that end, I want to help ensure that our senior year is a great one – memorable, fun and fulfilling in all aspects.

Over the past few years, I have been involved in a number of activities that prepare me to provide solid representation for our class.Last year, when there was talk of eliminating the PRIDE program, I wrote and delivered a speech (with a fellow classmate)to the school board to advocate for all Quakertown High School students, encouraging the board members to reconsider and, in turn, keep the PRIDE program in place. The board agreed to reinstate a survey for students, parents and teachers, the results of which showed that the PRIDE program was still important to all three factions. PRIDE was reinstated for the 2014 – 2015 academic school year. I feel a great sense of accomplishment knowing that I was able to help fellow students retain an important component for our academic success. And I will continue advocating for us, the students, as a member of the Class Senate should the need arise.

As a member of the volleyball team, I organized and led an entire four-day summer camp for students in grades 4 – 9 with three teammates. The event was a great success. Working cooperatively in a group and sharing responsibilities in that environment is a clear precursor to working well as a team on Class Senate. In addition to the camp, I planned and organized Senior Night with a teammate and that, too, was a successful evening.

I have been a member of the track team since entering high school (cross country, indoor and outdoor) and have had many opportunities to lead by example in that arena. I have learned that when you put your mind to it, there is nothing you can’t accomplish and I have seen first-hand how we can encourage one another to do great things.

I volunteer in the community in several ways, participate in 5Ks, organize a team for the Annual Sarah Parvin Memorial Soccer Fest, enjoy intramural soccer and AAU volleyball. I will be attending the Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week this August, to learn how to run your own business, where I will no doubt learn some valuable new skills on working as a team for the betterment of all.

It would my pleasure to bring my ideas, determination and organizational skills to the Class of 2016 Senate and I would be delighted to know that I was able to enhance our senior year in any way – academically, sports-wise, new activities, better communication, etc. I am open-minded and would welcome any and all suggestions to help make our senior year the best it can be.

Thank you for considering me to represent the Class of 2016.
