In both courses, the focus will be on developing interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational communicative competencies in Modern Standard Arabic.

Attendance

Attendance is very important to learning and academic achievement.

  1. Students must come to class on time. This means that students are expected to be seated on their assigned seats before the second bell rings.
  2. If a student arrives late, he/she mustsign in to the classroom and write the time of arrival and reason for being late in the yellow sheet placed on the clip board by the door.
  3. Four tardies in a period of nine weeks will result in “U” Unsatisfactory work habits.
  4. Parents will be notified when a student is habitually tardy.

Warm Up Activities

Daily warm-up prompts and questions will be posted on the board. Students work independently and silently on the warm-up activities. The purpose of the warm up is to help transition students to the Arabic class and to review the previously learned content. I will check the students’ work and enter their warm up grade.

Homework

I will assign homework to help students build fluency and practice communication skills learned in the class.

Participation & Class work

Participating in class activities is critical to mastering a foreign language. Students are expected tolisten, speak, read and write in Arabic most of the time during class. This is why students are advised to be in class everyday and on time.

Quizzes

Quizzes will have various components: speaking, listening, reading and writing. Students can study from their class notes and the handouts provided in class.

Projects and Presentations

Students are expected to make oral and written presentations in class, in small groups and individually. This is an opportunity for students to demonstrate what they have learned. I will provide academic support for all students to be able to perform the projects and presentations successfully. On the other hand, students need to practice before presenting their work.

Grading Period

There are four grading periods per semester. Each grading period consists of nine weeks where I will enter your grades for homework, warm-up, participation/ class work, projects and presentations as well as your work habits and cooperation. Once the grading period is over, students will not be able to make up for any homework, quiz, test or class work.
