  1. CALL TO ORDER

Dr. Burrell, chairman, called the meeting to order at 6:33PM as a regular monthly meeting of the Board of Education. Greg Crawford led the Pledge of Allegiance.

  1. RECOGNITON OF GUESTS
    A. Motion by Greg Crawford and seconded by Dail Cantrell to approve the request for an assistant soccer coach at AndersonCountyHigh School and ClintonHigh School for the 2009-2010 school year. Motion carried.

B.The board congratulated Will Housely, ClintonHigh School student board member, who received the national USA Today/ Al Neuharth Scholarship. Will stated he is passionate about broadcasting and is very excited about receiving the award and traveling to WashingtonD.C. to attend the conference and ceremony this month.

C.Will Housely and Alyshia Phillips introduced John Gentry and Kayla Carico, SCOPE participants from ClintonHigh School. Evan Simpson explained AndersonCountyHigh School participants Kenny Herrell and Emily Cox were unable to attend the meeting. Will Housely and Evan Simpson will attend SCOPE as well. Alyshia Phillips will report back to the board on her experience as SCOPE president.

VI. COMMENTS FROM THE CHAIR

A. Dr. Burrell explained the local candidate interview process and timeline would be discussed at Joint Venture on March 22 and 23. Tammy Grissom will be the facilitator this year.

    A. Projected enrollmentnumbers were provided for review.
    B. Principal budget improvement requests were provided for review.
    C.The Oak Ridge Breakfast Rotary Club provided grants to the following teachers:

  3. Janis Bishop – Briceville and Dutch Valley Elementary, $2,300 each for non-fiction library books

A.The monthly report was accepted as read.

A. Wanda McCrosky provided a copy of the TLN report to board members.

  2. Motion by JoWilliams and unanimously seconded by board members to approve naming the ClaxtonElementary School gym in honor of Mr. V. L. Stonecipher. Motion carried. Mrs. Williams said she understood this would be done at the last assembly meeting of the school year.

XI. FINANCIAL REPORT

1a / 141-76100 – Regular Capital Outlay, to appropriate the $100,000 for the $500.00 contribution from UT-Battelle for the deductible and $99,500 initial insurance reimbursement from Tennessee Risk Management Trust (TNRMT) for the “Lily Pad” cabin reconstruction at NorrisElementary School. / $100,000.00
1b / 145.13 Head Start budget, 2009-2010 – this budget is being submitted for approval because Region IV Head Start requires that it be submitted no later than March 31, 2009. / $1,820,531.00

2a / 141-76100 – Regular Capital Outlay, to transfer funds for the intercom systems at LakeCityMiddle School and NorwoodElementary Schools, and to transfer funds to purchase a trailer to haul the BobCat and attachments and computer equipment to implement stores inventory and tracking system / $52,500.00
2b / 141-71600 – Adult Education, to transfer funds to better align the budgets with the correct object codes based upon the mid year review. / $80,249.00

C. REQUEST FROM SCHOOLS

3a / ClintonMiddle School requests approval to purchase football uniforms. The total coast will be $5,880.00. This will be paid from the school football fund. / $5,880.00
3b / Anderson County Career and TechnicalCenter requests $3,000 for student competition teams such as FCCLA, FBLA and Skills USA. Funds will be used to cover hotel, travel and registration expense. / $3,000.00

Motion byGregCrawford and seconded by RickeyRoseto approve request from schools 3a - b. Motion carried.

D. INFORMATION

Jim Woodward stated property taxes came in consistent with projections.

Wanda McCrosky asked about the stimulus package and how it wouldaffect Anderson County Schools. Mr. Woodward explained IDEA and Title I information has been received, but no mention has been made of the others yet.
