INTA

is situated in the North of Komi Republic .

HISTORY. In 1912 a resident of the village Petrun Ivan Sorvachov reported about deposits of coal which he had found on the bank of the river Inta. In 1924 the expedition of E.D Soshkina, a famous explore of the North, Chernov’s student, found coal in this region. The first settlers of Inta were prisoners, mostly political ones. They have built first mines and wooden houses (for themselves) and in 1941 miners provided Leningrad with coal. The first school was opened in 1942. In 1954 a settlement Inta has become a town.

VIEW. Inta consists of 4 parts like London: the West, the East, the South and the centre where the seat of local administration is. About 40 thousand people who live there are mostly Russians and Ukrainians by origin. There are hospitals, policlinics, Houses of Culture, a music school and many secondary schools there. After finishing school young people study at a vocational or technical school go to another town or city to enter an Institute or a University.

There is a railway station in the town. In the railway station square there is a monument to Lenin. In Komsomolskaya Square there’s a monument to defender’s of Russia, heroes of thу second World War.

Freed and Dounsky – directors of famous films – created two films in Inta: “Ones upon a time lived an old man and an old woman”, “The accident at the mine number 8”. And also a famous singer Lydia Ruslanova and Zoya Fyodorova were prisoned in our region. A remarkable artist Vitaly Trofimov was born here and is a resident of this town. Many poets live in Inta today: A. Sizov, A. Andro, I. Sizova, E. Poluyakhtova, S. Berkovich.

NATURE. Our town is situated near the Polar circle. There are strong frosts and much snow in our town in winter. I like the northern severe beauty of my town, its long polar nights in winter and its wonderful white nights in summer. Our forests are full of mushrooms, berries, animals and birds. The rivers are full of different kinds of fish, for example: salmon. People are fond of hunting and fishing.

If you want to experience an exotic beauty of the North, welcome to my native town.
