TODAY’S PROGRAM
Two members of the GP South Sun Devils, a solar car design team, gave a presentation on their work developing a car and participating in the Solar Car Challenge over the summer.
They first met with engineers and, through drafts, CAD (computer aided design, and models), designed the vehicle. They fundraised, raising $35,000. Finally, they built the
vehicle, working hard to meet various deadlines.
The Solar Car Challenge took place in July, starting in Texas and ending in Los Angeles. The team raced from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM every day, constantly charging the battery and rotating drivers, and then making any necessary repairs at night. Averaging 20 mph, they completed the 403 mile race in 2 weeks, finishing 7th out of 14 teams.
The goal of this year’s team is to bring more students into the mix, design a lighter and faster car, and raise $50,000 to make this happen. If anyone wishes to donate or help with the vehicle’s construction, please visit
