Invicta Riding Club Winter 2011 Newsletter

Well “horse-lovers” it is that time of year again to get out the rugs and “wellie boots” – the mud and dark evenings have arrived but this is not the time to be down hearted as there is an array of activities planned for our winter programme which I am sure will help to keep us active???

It is also time to complete and send with your annual subscription to Sue Chandler the enclosed membership form, which is due by the end December 2011.

To start with I would like to say a big thank you to Tricia Underwood for the time and effort taken to write the Newsletters over the last 18months. To introduce myself I have been an IRC Member for the last 3 years but only decided in 2010 that I wanted to be more actively involved with the Club so for the last 12 months I have been the Hacking Committee Member and now the Newsletter Editor!!! If there are any topics / information that you would like to see added to the format of your Newsletter please let me know?

At this point I would also like to raise the matter that the Committee was very sorry to hear that Sue Chandler wished to retire from the Committee and many thanks are offered for all her time and efforts spent over the last couple of years doing the Minutes and organizing the meetings.

Well… what has been happening with IRC:

All the regular clinics continue to be well-supported and future dates and activities are presented on the IRC web site Diary of Events.

For info - if Members wish to continue with the Blue Barn evening clinics in the New Year then please contact Tricia Underwood soonest to declare your interest otherwise no further sessions will be booked.

The Club Mornings in Aldington also continue to be well supported – these mornings offer you the chance to have “coffee, cake and a chat” with or without your horse!!

(Please can I ask that you all arrive in good time before the start of your clinic - It has also become necessary for some clinic organisers to ask for payment in advance so that trainers or the Club are not left “out of pocket” when members do not turn up!!)

The “host a hack” outings have been very successful and on a few occasions we have reached double figures!!! The Romney Marsh outing was fantastic and many thanks to Helen & Robert Langrish for looking after us all so well – for those members who could not join in this time we have been invited back in May 2012!! If any Member would like to “host a hack” please contact me on

There have been various invitations to join cross-country / hunt rides and many thanks are offered to those individuals who have made available these great opportunities to Club members.

BRC Area 10

Hopefully the Club will be able to present a Team for the Dressage Competition on 4th Dec 2011 at Ardingly – we wish them all the best of luck

In March 2012 there will be both the Area 10 friendly indoor show-jumping at Eaglesfield and the Royal Windsor Horse Show qualifiers for dressage and show-jumping – keep an eye out for further details on the IRC www

(please note – IRC will pay entry fees for Area 10 events BUT if a Member withdraws from the Team they must cover the cost of the entry fee unless they find a “reserve member” or produce a Vet or Doctor’s certificate)

Activity Weekend: 1st and 2nd October in Aldington

The Activity Weekend followed a similar format to last year, with training activities on the Saturday and a competition day on the Sunday. Joss Hubble and Mally Spens helped with show jumping and cross-country sessions, Penny Hayward offered the chance to “Ride a Dressage Test” and have a chat about it afterwards, Lena Pearson-Wood (physiotherapist) returned with her Pilates Balls and did a workshop on posture and Roz Scott was happy to teach what members wanted to do!! Overall, it was a fantastic couple of days of fun and enjoyment and the weather was like being on holiday in the tropics – a huge thank you to the Underwood Family for hosting this event for the second year running and for all those “helpers” who got stuck in and made it all work!

Activity Weekend Prize Winners

If you’d like to see more activity weekend photos they are on the ‘photobox’ website:

18th Novthere was a “Fun, Wine & Wisdom” social evening held at The Farriers Arms, Mersham which was a great success with over 50 members with friends and family joining in on the fun. A big thank you to Fay Underwood for all her efforts in organizing the evening and to Robert Hubble for being a grand Quiz Master.

19th Nov there was the second Centaur Biomechanics: Rider Analysis Clinic, which helps to improve your riding in one “easy” session with the help of a video and biomechanical analysis. Hopefully there will be more clinics – check the IRC www Diary of Eventsplease get in touch with Penny or Cathy to participate.

Well, that’s about it for now….please contact any of the Committee for help or information
