MFOA Board Meeting Minutes

Call to Order – @ 4:14 by A. Summers

Previous minutes – T. Adams. Motion by T. Bedford to accept February 2017 minutes as posted, 2nd by R. Sergent. Motion carries.

Treasurer’s Report – J. Pole. Motion to accept report as presented by R. Sergent, 2nd by C. Dill. Motion carries.

Old Business –

Web page update – www.mfoa.us - D. Soluri. Photos have been updated. Send any information that needs to be added as needed.

Annual M.F.O.A. Awards Banquet Update – C. Dill & W. Clayton. May 20, 2017 date is not an option for the site that was chosen in Gainesville. C. Dill will continue to research other options. R. Hill has offered to check sites in Lake City. C. Dill will be in touch with R. Hill if needed.

Retired officials recognition update – C. Anderson. Not present, none presented.

New Business –

Basketball News – C. Anderson, R. Hill, & T. Lee, Sr. – M.F.O.A. had two crews, one for the Girls’ State Tournament (R. Rocker, J. Nakamura, & M. Fisher) and one for the Boys’ State Tournament (W. Clayton, B. McCall, & D. Williams) Congratulations to those officials for being selected for this honor. Also, congratulations to Leesburg High School for winning the Boys’ State Basketball Championship in Leesburg

Baseball News – D. Stewart. Everything is going well. About 70% of our schools are using the M.F.O.A. line-up cards. Of the three people that were sent to state evaluation camp, two have qualified for playoffs with the FHSAA.

Flag Football News – R. Sergent. Meeting with A.D. in regards to Flag Football Field with Clinic meeting Citrus High School and Crystal River High School. Meeting went well and several fans showed up to watch. Film from field clinic was used during the classroom sessions later in the afternoon. Has also met with LWHS and had a scrimmage session with them as well. J. Phillips also helped out with an email to all of the MCPS coaches to encourage them to contact R. Sergent to set up other scrimmages. This was a great help and went well. Several options were set up to help accommodate all of the officials’ schedules. NFHS study books have not been received as of yet. Reid is getting copies out to officials and coaches that have a need for study materials. He also shared a concern in regards to officials being booked that have not attended rules meetings, mechanics clinics, or scrimmages. He has contacted W. Clayton with a list of officials who are not qualified to be booked, as well as, a list of officials who have met the qualifications. There was also a concern shared by several board members in regards to the quality of officials that the M.F.O.A. is putting on the field and the court.

Football News – M. Baas, T. Bedford, & C. Dill. – Concerns were shared with the new rules with football. Discussion was also held in regards to the upcoming Spring Scrimmages.

Softball News – J. Law. Softball is going well. There is some frustration with the updates from the FHSAA. We need to work on dealing with recruiting newer/younger officials for this and all of our sports. D. Graham has retired from active officiating and will be the evaluator for the M.F.O.A. this year. T. Bedford mentioned that the Recommendations Committee meeting will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2017. Crews will be considered using the M.F.O.A. Relative Rating.

Suspensions/Fines/MFOA Incident Reports – R. Howard. Not present, none presented.

Other – *M.F.O.A. Annual Business meeting is scheduled for Saturday, April 29, 2017. This meeting will be held in Ocala at the MCSO Emergency Operations Center and begin at 9:00am.

*Children’s Miracle Network Flag Football fundraiser in Gainesville is scheduled for Sunday, April 9, 2017. R. Sergent has been working with W. Clayton to get Flag Football officials to help out.

*Sports Awards documents need to be sent out to our officials.

*R. Hill shared some concerns with our current M.F.O.A. Basketball Evaluations. He would like to have the evaluators trained in order to enhance this process. *Combining M.F.O.A. Annual Business Meeting/Awards Banquet discussion was held and this will not be considered for this year.

*T. Lee contacted the NFHS Association in regards to the “drone issue”. He was told that this issue needs to be handled with our state association.

*Update on R. Sullivan’s grandson. Prayers would be appreciated.

Nominations for 2017 Elections – Nominations will be broadcast out and posted within the stated deadlines.
