MID-YEAR TRAINING GUIDELINES for Children and Youth 2014/2015
In beginning of the instructional year we have taken time to identify the adults to whom the children can confide matters of concern. Our goal is to be persons who can help children grow ina relationship with our Lord Jesus, and we are alsoadults who care for the safety of our students. We stand ready toadvocate for children who have been abused or neglected. Every Februaryweremind the children that we are here and ready to be of assistance to them in a time of need.
Faith formation classes are asked to use one of the scriptsbelow on the week of either March 21-22 or the week of March28-29to remind the students of our commitment to be adults of strength and integrity if they are in relationships that bring them harm.
Grades K-2
“Children,today we are going to talk about adults that care about you, your learning and your safety. We come together to learn. As your teacher, I will help you learn and I will make sure that you are safe when you are here. I care about you very much. If you ever have questions or problems, you can come to me for help. There are other people at school and church who want to help you learn, grow, and be safe. They are (name trained people, LevelC). How wonderful it is to have all these people who care about us and want us to be safe and happy. God is the One who loves us most of all, and we can talk to God anytime, day and night. I want you to know also know that there are adults here at church you can trust and who care about you as a child of God."
Grades 3-5
“Hello class, I am glad you are all here. I want you to know that the adults here care about you, your learning and your safety. As we gather as a community of Christians, I am here to help teach you, and to help keep you safe. There are other people who are here to help also, they are (INSERT THE NAMES of other trained leaders in your parish who will interact with the kids.) All of us are here for you. Please let us know if you ever do not feel safe. You can share with us your joys or your concerns”
Together we will all grow in knowledge of ourselves, in knowledge of our world and we will grow in faithfulness to Jesus Christ our Lord.
Grades 6-8
“Hello class, not only am I here to support you in learning about Jesus, prayer, scripture and our Catholic faith, but I am here if you have concerns and questions or if you ever do not feel safe. I am someone you can come to and someone who will do their best to help. There are other people who are here to help too; they are (INSERT the names of other trained leaders in your parish). Please come to us if you ever need help. ”
Grades 9-12
“Everyone here is created in the image and likeness of God. That gives us a duty to be respectful of each other. Please look out for each other. If you have a problem, if you do not feel safe, if you are worried, if you are in a relationship that bring you harm, know that this is a safe place to bring those concerns. I have been through what our Diocese calls “Safe Environment Training.” Attending this workshop does not mean that I know everything but it does mean that I can be available to help you find ways to handle fears, concernsor some pains. There are other people who are here because they care for you, they are prepared as well. They are (INSERT names here, level C people).Together, let us be joyful in our knowledge and faithfulness to our God and also know this is a place where help can be found when life is not joyful. ”

Como maestro/a, les ayudaré aaprendery me aseguraré de que estén bien atendidosmientras esténaquí.Ustedes me preocupan muchísimo.Si tienen preguntas,problemas o necesitanayudapueden acercarsea mí. Hay más personas en la escuela e iglesia,quedesean ayudarlos a aprender, a crecer, y estar seguros. Ellos son (nombrar las personas capacitadas, Nivel C). Qué maravilloso escontar contodas estas personas que se preocupan por nosotros y que desean nuestra felicidad y seguridad.
