Individual lessons must have an MI STRATEGY referenced: name of strategy and pg. number. (The MI, name of strategy, pg in your text)

Must use technology at least once in your unit activities.

When planning, think about the kinds of teaching things we did in class: simulations, webbing, journaling, white boards, retelling, hands-on, cps, books,author search, and literacy circle activities. I expect to see some ideas and strategy methods from class.

Use at least 3 outside resources to help you plan and teach. Need bibliography of each lesson plan. (Math activities need to generate lots of problems.

Worksheets that last for only a minute are not acceptable activities. Recording forms, but not worksheets.

Avoid using “you guys”; use other nouns: boys and girls, children, class…

No candy or treats as rewards.

Check for allergies.

Do not use “QUIET.” Use “soft” or “inside” voices or “no talking.”

Dressed professionally, covered from neck to ankles or below knees.

No gum.

List of student names; we hope to have for you. (may need to be by e-mail)

Check e-mail several times a day.

All group members need to contribute to this activity. If not all group members are participating, it is causing a hardship to all those who have the teaching passion; then I would like to be informed. I want this to be learning and fun and empowering for all.

Mandatory30 minute group meeting with Jane before April 16 to go over all lesson plans. Must have written on hardcopy or disk of teaching packet. All sheets must be completed. All group members must attend. All documents must be complete. See sign up sheet. I will come in evenings.

Mandatory meeting with instructor to look at teaching materials and final plans before Thursday22. I must see all your PREPARED TEACHING MATERIALS including tags, certificates, worksheets, posters, etc…

If you’re leaving the ball room for an activity, include a full sheet with the lesson plan that says when, where, and how long. (If you have cell, take it along).

By Thursday 22midnightgivematerials that need to be copied to Jane. Otherwise you will be responsible for copying.

MediaCenter in Kirby first floor is where you can sign out equipment: e.g., cameras, white boards, projectors, laptops, etc…

Video your teaching. To use other equipment, you need to get my permission. See media center for equipment. These artifacts will be used for your analysis/evaluation assignment due after the teaching day. Directions will be given on teaching day.

After completing the lessons in this ‘FRIENDSHIP’ unit, students will be able to:

  • Explain what a friend is and describe some ideal characteristics.
  • Discuss similarities and differences between our different friends.
  • Observe the many kinds of friends.
  • Develop a deeper understanding of nature as a friend.
  • Demonstrate how to write poetry.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of how to create a graph and chart following surveying.

KATIE’s Lesson
After reading a variety of literature friendship books, the students will write a poem about their best friend to the best of his/her ability.
ELLEN’s Lesson
Following verbal linguistic reading of friendship books, the students will conduct a survey of the two most important friend characteristics while creating a graph to the best of his/her ability.
NATALIE’s Lesson
After talking about good characteristics of a friend, the students will define a good friend by tracing a student’s body and writing the characteristics inside the outline to the best of his/her ability.
ELLEN’s Lesson
Given the lyrics to “Say, Say, Oh Playmate,” the students will sing, dance, and create clapping rhythms while viewingthe video, Grandpa’s Magical Toys,to the best of his/her ability.
KATIE’s
After all activities are completed, the students will assemble their own memory book with materials received and made throughout the day of Extravaganza 2004 to the best of his/her ability.
SARA’s Lesson
After introducing Earth as our friend, the students will pot friendship flowers while we discuss of how to take care of our Earth to the best of his/her ability.
