Introduction/Personal Reflections/Fieldwork ReflectionsMy Reflection on first field work

September25, 2007 is the day when I began my first field work observation. True to say that I cannot forget this day in my life. As the man left his footprint on the moon, I also left my footprint on aboard. Before coming to the USA I would think that how the teachers and students would be. Now I can realize that how they are. The name of the school where I visited is Yorktown High School. My mentor teacher who received me cordially is Tracy Maguire. I observed 2 classes, one was literature and other was science. She taught only the students of HILTEXB. After observing her classes I didn’t find any significant similarity between her teaching method and my teaching method. But there is a similarity that she teaches English as a second language (ESL), I also do so. On the other hand I found a lot of differences which are given below.

  1. Her class size is small and my class size is large.
  2. The number of the students of her class is 7 to 15 but the number of my classroom is above one hundred.
  3. Her classroom is well decorated with modern equipment but my classroom is not.
  4. The relationship of the teacher and students are friendly. The students of her class enjoy more freedom. But in our school students are not allowed to talk to each other or move around without the permission of the teacher.

There are some differences which are very important for my school. They are given below:

  • More freedom to the students
  • Providing handout
  • Small size classroom

Be friendly with the studeWho am I as a Teacher?

There goes a saying that “a teacher is a philosopher, friend and guide”. I am one who works as a philosopher, friend and guide. As a guide my first and foremost duty is to show them the way in which they can learn effectively. As a friend I open myself in front of them I am not a teacher. I am a friend of them to whom they can say and ask anything. Besides my duty is to teach them manner, sincerity, honesty, punctuality, accountability, responsibility, etc. I try my best to teach with such a lesson by which they are able to face their practical life. Keeping all these in my mind I have been working as a teacher. I always think about my students and also try my best to teach them in an easy way. As a teacher I lead a very balanced life. I am ill paid but it does not mean that I do not teach them according to my well plan. I have a commitment to my students. So I should not think about my salary and my position. Last of all I would like to say that “I want to be a teacher till my death.”
