In fact, throughout most of the book, Paul speaks of the Erik Fisher Football Dream, which is created by his father. However, what his father and mother seem to be blind to is the true person Erik is. At one point of the novel, Paul sees the true Erik, which includes many flaws that his parents fail to see.
