Introducing B.E.A.R.S. Binders!

Becoming EfficientAnd Responsible Students

Dear Students and Families,

I am excited to implement B.E.A.R.S binders in our class this year. These binders will be used daily in class and at home to help maintain organization during our school year together. We will spend a great deal of time in class discussing the purpose of each section and practicing how to use the binders in school as well as at home. The binder is to be packed in your child’sbackpack each day to help facilitate communication about school events and organize daily work and information. An example of a B.E.A.R.S. binder will be available during “Meet and Greet” onAugust 28th between 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

What you will need:

  • A white, one inch binder with a clear plastic window on the front and pockets on the inside
  • A three hole, canvas, pencil pouch with two zipper pockets (one of the pockets is smaller and has a mesh material)

(These items can be found at Staples-the pencil cases are displayed in a cylinder box right next to the binders in the OxfordValley location)

Thank you in advance for helping your childbecome the most efficient and responsible student he or she can be!

Sincerely,

Miss Girard

P.S. You can access the general supply list for 3rd grade on Sol Feinstone’s website under the headlines.

B.E.A.R.S. Binders Sections

There are different sections in the binder and each of them has a specific purpose:

  1. Money and Special Notes Pouch – This pouch is a designated place for parents to place important notes that need to be given to me by your child. Parents may also write notes in the assignment book as well. The pouch is also designated for money that may need to come to school like lunch money, field trip payments, etc. These are the only two items that should be in this pouch.
  2. Reading Log- In the front, there will be a nightly reading log inserted to track daily reading that is completed at home. Reading for enjoyment is considered daily homework. The reading log should be filled out each night.
  3. Assignment Book- Each day in class we will log any important announcements and assignments in our assignment book. This book will stay in the B.E.A.R.S. binder to ensure that it is taken home for parents to sign and review. Assignment books and signatures are checked daily and are a great place for general parent notes as well.
  4. Homework Pocket- Any homework assignments will be placed in this pocket during the school day. Once homework is completed, students should place his/her homework back in this pocket.
  5. Take Home/Stay Home Pocket – This pocket should be cleaned out daily as informative papers are sent home.
