INTERVENTION PROGRAM

TERRA NOVA TESTING INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT DO I DO FIRST?

1)Identify which grade levels you are responsible for testing. Please refer to the attached list (duplicated below)—if you find your name on the list you will need to give Terra Nova to the grade levels indicated with a “1” before beginning intervention instruction. If you see grade levels marked next to your name with “0,” it means you would not need to test any intervention students in that grade level. You will not need to test all students in that grade level—only those who will receive intervention sometime during the year.

2)Secure consent from students that will be receiving information.

  • Students that will be receiving the Terra Nova should receive the “TESTING CONSENT” form
  • Students that will not be receiving the Terra Nova should receive the “NO TESTING CONSENT” form

WHO DO I TEST?

Administer the Terra Nova test to students that will be receiving pull-out intervention services in the grade level indicated on the TESTING ASSIGNMENT form. If you plan to implement flexible grouping, please pre-test students in the selected grade levels who will likely receive more than 20 days of intervention services. When in doubt, give the Terra Nova pre-test. IMPORTANT: You will not need to administer the Terra Nova to students that receive intervention services through classroom collaboration.

WHEN DO I GIVE THE TEST?

YEAR-LONG INTERVENTION CYCLE:

Fall: Administer the Terra Nova to students immediately prior to beginning intervention instruction.

Mid-Year: Administer the Terra Nova to students who may be entering or exiting intervention for reasons such as transiency or exceptional progress.

Spring: Administer the Terra Nova to students at the conclusion of their intervention experience.

HALF-YEAR INTERVENTION CYCLE:

Fall: Administer the Terra Nova to students that will be receiving intervention services immediately prior to beginning instruction. Also administer the Terra Nova to students that will likely be receiving intervention services later in the year.

Mid-Year: Administer the Terra Nova to students that are either exiting or entering the intervention program

Spring: Administer the Terra Nova to all students that received intervention services at some point during the year.

WHAT DO I DO AFTER I HAVE GIVEN THE FALL TEST?

Please write on the top of the front cover: 1) your MIT number (first three letters of mother’s maiden name followed by MIT’s 2-digit birth month and 2-digit birth date); 2) the student’s state ID #; 3) the date of test administration. Secure your Terra Nova test-booklets until we begin the collection process incorporating our new online database in late September and early October.
