WORKSHOP: SECURING AND INTERNSHIP IN-STATE AND OUT-OF-STATE

Many employers look to their interns when full-time positions become available in their company. Internships give you the chance to 'test-drive' a career. Learn how to go about finding an internship, what qualifications or classes are necessary, and generally what to expect from the internship experience. The workshop will be held on Thursday, March 31 from 12:00-1:00pm in the Trojan Presentation Room (STU B3).

CAREER CENTER INTERNSHIP PROGRAMS! DEADLINE NEXT FRIDAY!

The Career Planning & Placement Center is offering two great summer internship programs for 2010, Dream Dollars and The Scheyer Family Scholarship.

The Dream Dollars Program is a unique “scholarship” program for undergraduates. The USC Dream Dollars Program provides stipends for USC students who receive internships with a non-profit or government organization. This program will support students hoping to gain work experience from an unpaid internship. Students will be selected through an application and interview process. All internships must be a minimum of six weeks during the summer. The program provides a stipend of $1,200 for each student. For more information go to our website or stop by the Internship Programs Office in STU B1. Application deadline is 5pm on Friday, April 8, 2011.

The Scheyer Family Scholarship for Summer Interns, established in December of 2007, will provide an award of $2,500.00 to two students enrolled in approved summer internships. Preference will be given to sophomores, juniors or seniors with demonstrated financial need. Student recipients must have a major in the USC College of Letters, Arts & Sciences and must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Students must be in good academic standing and must have a graduation date between December 2010 and May 2013. Students must have an internship prior to applying for this scholarship. §  United States Marine Corps – Platoon Leaders Course (Freshman, Sophomore, Junior)

The PLC Program has both ground and aviation options and is open to college freshmen, sophomores and juniors. Freshman and sophomores take their pre-commissioning training at Quantico, Virginia in two separate six-week training sessions over two summers without interrupting their academic career. One session takes place at the end of the first year following acceptance into the program and the other session is conducted at the end of the junior year of college. College juniors accepted into the PLC Program attend 10 weeks of training after the end of their junior year. After completion of all training requirements and upon receipt of degree, candidates are commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. Immediately thereafter, assignment to active duty commences. The mission of OCS is to provide a physically challenging and mentally stressful training environment in which candidates can be evaluated on their leadership ability and potential to serve as United States Marine Corps Officers. Officer Candidate School may well be the most demanding challenge you ever faced. Upon completion of Officer Candidate School (OCS) and graduation from a four-year college, you'll be offered a commission as a Marine Officer. If you choose to accept this 'job offer' you will serve on active duty in the Marine Corps for three and a half years (more if you choose). Your commission is the beginning of a career (whether you serve 4 years or 20+ years) with many opportunities for advancement and a broad array of exciting jobs. Additional benefits include paid summer training, financial assistance pay ($3150.00 per school year once you complete one summer of OCS), and a college tuition assistance program ($5200.00 per school year once you have completed one summer of OCS). Minimum requires for our Commissioning Program are: Between 17-31 years of age, must be a U.S. citizen, no felony convictions, be currently enrolled full time at a college, have a GPA of 2.0 or higher, attain a SAT score of 1000 or high (Math and English), Composite ACT score of 22 or higher, AFQT score of 74 or higher on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery. Must be able to complete the Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test with a score of 225 or higher. §  Public Allies Los Angeles – Public Ally

Public Allies advances diverse young leaders to strengthen communities, nonprofits and civic participation. Public Allies was founded in 1992 by a diverse group of young nonprofit leaders and activists who believed that there were many energetic, talented young people who wanted to tackle community and national issues. Recognized by the Bush and Clinton administrations as a model for national service, Public Allies has expanded to 17 communities through which nearly 7,000 Allies have served. Public Allies Los Angeles is searching for people passionate about change in Los Angeles to apply for a paid, ten-month leadership development and nonprofit apprenticeship program. Candidates must be a minimum of 17 years old, be a citizen or permanent resident, have a high school diploma or G.E.D. and have a strong interest in social justice and the nonprofit sector. The 35 Allies selected for the program will: work towards social justice by working full time at a partner organization; learn about the nonprofit sector and how to analyze community issues through Public Ally training workshops; design and implement projects that benefit the community through classes at the Community Planning Department at LA Trade Tech; challenge yourself to grow through one-on-one coaching sessions; and develop leadership skills by developing and implementing a team service project in the community. §  Warner Bros. Entertainment Group – Design Services Intern ($10/hr)

Warner Bros. Media Research & Insights seeks a Design Services Intern to assist the Director of Design Services in the production of one-of-a-kind PowerPoint Presentations. Job responsibilities include: assist in silhouetting talent images using Adobe Photoshop; assist in maintaining a digital library of corporate, brand, publication, and network logos using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator; observe and participate in presentation reviews with the Media Research team to understand the needs of client(s) and institute information design; edit existing PowerPoint presentation for Directors and Managers. Qualifications include: college student working on BFA/BA degree in Graphic Design, or Communications; intermediate skill in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Bridge (CS5), Quark Xpress 8, and Microsoft PowerPoint 2007; strong interest in the entertainment industry, television & digital in particular. No previous work experience required. Must have ability to communicate effectively & tactfully with managers & other levels of personnel. §  The Phoenix Project – 2011 Social Innovation Program (SIP)

SIP is a cutting edge program to prepare top undergraduates, recent graduates, and graduate students to become the next generation of social entrepreneurs and nonprofit leaders. Graduates from this intensive six-week institute emerge prepared to apply entrepreneurial approaches to social challenges through nonprofit, private, and public sector organizations. The program is from June 19-July 30, 2011. This one-of-a-kind institute offers participants the opportunity to complete meaningful consulting projects for nonprofit and community organizations while learning what it takes to be a social entrepreneur. Students network with top leaders in the field while enjoying all that the greater Washington, D.C. area has to offer. Housing is provided on George Mason University's campus. §  SBE – Events Intern

SBE Events Department is seeking a Summer Intern to assist with daily events and sales activities, focusing mainly on sales. This position is for school credit only and we are looking for candidates who are available a minimum of 3 days per week, Monday thru Friday. Job functions include: assist with preparing proposals; preparing and mailing Sales Kits; organizing Events Calendar; setting up Sales meetings; assist with general administrative needs. Interns will gain exposure to working with an events team and knowledge about how to handle sales inquiries and sales kits. Must currently be attending college in the Los Angeles area, and must be eligible to enroll in an internship course. Must be available for 3 days a week (work 25 hrs/week), and must have strong internet, Microsoft Office, and communication Skills. Must be able to work in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment, and work well in a team. Strong attention to detail and the ability to multi-task.
