Job Title: Leisure, Recreation and Sport Gymnastics Coach

Duration: Permanent

Location: Various across the Fermanagh & Omagh District Council area

Directorate: Community Health and Leisure

Hours: 37 hours per week, include evenings, weekends and public holidays

Wages: Scale 4, SCP 18-21; £346.55 – 386.21 per week

Main Purpose of Job

To deliver gymnastics coaching activities, gymnastics events and gymnastic programmes across the Fermanagh & Omagh district area. These activities, events and programmes, will be delivered in community, council and school facilities so as to provide quality sport and physical activity opportunities. This will involve developing and delivering a range of gymnastics opportunities, some of which may be specifically targeted at particular sections of the community.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

·  Plan and deliver a range of gymnastics activities to range of abilities e.g. gender, age appropriate and disability in conjunction with colleagues, managers and other stakeholders across Fermanagh & Omagh District Council.

·  Deliver as directed, an appropriate programme of activities. This may include those that specifically target participants eg girls and women, high social need areas, disability and general public.

·  When required, to develop and deliver physical activity sessions, events and programmes to participants of varying abilities, from all sections of the community which will include participants with a disability. These activity sessions, events and programmes will be delivered in council and community venues across the Fermanagh & Omagh district.

·  When required, to deliver a range of coached programmes in conjunction with colleagues, partners and other stakeholders across the Fermanagh & Omagh District Council area e.g. Come and Try It sessions, Every Body Active 2020, Healthy Towns, and Inclusive Leisure Programme as well as Bike Week activities and delivery of Community Coaching etc.

·  To prepare and organise all sessions in a safe and appropriate manner in line with Council Policy and Procedures and industry best practice.

·  Ensure the implementation and reporting of monitoring and evaluation systems

·  To develop and co-ordinate personal work plans.

·  Promote and increase awareness of the Council’s work and the community benefits gained.

·  Assist in ensuring the service supports the delivery of the Councils Corporate strategy and Community Plan.

·  Liaise with relevant staff, communities, clubs and volunteers to agree facility availability and access for the delivery of all sessions

·  Manage the equipment, its transport and inventory for the delivery of all coaching sessions.

·  Carry out and provide concise progress reports relating to agreed key performance indicators, programming schedules, case studies and surveys in a timely manner.

·  To maintain current knowledge of relevant programmes, policies, guidance and advice.

·  Respond to general enquiries and deal efficiently with the administration requirements of the post.

·  To assist in the delivery and programming of other Council projects, programmes and events and to complement delivery across both Fermanagh & Omagh District Council areas.

·  As directed by management, guide assistant coaches.

·  Commit to a programme of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) to ensure delivery and innovation of the highest levels;

·  Work towards achieving Council and departmental targets as well as thosetargets identified by partner organisations.

·  To complete, record and file all Health & Safety policy and procedures in relation to delivery of programmes and events i.e. Risk Assessments, accident report forms, participant forms, fitness questionnaires, health related documents etc.

·  To be responsible for efficient and effective use of time management for the programme.

·  Undertake coaching in other sports commensurate with any sporting qualification you may hold.

·  Undertake any other duties and training as required within the remit of the post.

General

Essential Criteria / Method of Assessment:
Hold a minimum of Level 2 Gymnastics coaching qualification which enables you to coach independently in one of the following disciplines:
·  General Gymnastics – Level 2 or above
·  Artistic Gymnastics – Level 2 or above
*(If the successful candidate does not hold this qualification on appointment, he/she will be required to undertake this qualification to be attained within six months of appointment. Progression beyond the minimum point of the salary scale will be conditional upon the achievement of the qualification.) / Application Form
Hold a minimum of 12 months’ coaching experience to include the ability to;
a) Manage groups effectively

Competence in the use of IT to include use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and email. / Application Form
Access to transport which enables the post holder to fulfil the duties of the post. / Application Form

General

The appointment will be subject to:

a)  Satisfactory references from two referees (one of which should be from the present or previous employer).

b)  A satisfactory standard of attendance, conduct and performance in carrying out the duties of the post.

c)  The satisfactory completion of a probationary period of six months with an interim period of three months.

d)  Satisfactory receipt of a Basic Access NI Disclosure Certificate

e)  The terms of the Northern Ireland Local Government Pension Scheme.

f)  The production of evidence of educational and/or professional qualifications as listed on the Application Form.

g)  A medical report by the Council’s Medical Examiner which confirms fitness for employment in the position.
