INTERNATIONAL PRISON MINISTRY UPDATE
Harvestime Workers Ministering In A Filipino Prison
Since 1995, Harvestime has been involved in prison ministry, both through personal ministry in prisons and by creating resources that are being used internationally by prison ministries, chaplains, and prison inmates. This edition of Network News features reports from three of these ministries that are impacting institutions around the world.
From Ghana:
"Thank you for the materials you sent which we are using in our prison ministry school. The primary aim of our school is to train spiritually mature, well equipped, and motivated chaplains who will minister in prison facilities and other related institutions such as reentry programs and aftercare facilities. Our philosophy is one of restorative justice, with the goal of bringing all parties affected by crime together to work towards healing. We combine legal aid, judicial council, educational services, and spiritual programs to provide a comprehensive program."
-Coalition of Prison Evangelists, Accra, Ghana
From Malawi:
"I am leading a team doing a teaching ministry among the Mzuzu prison inmates. Some 85 inmates have registered for the training. Yesterday was another great day with the inmates. I am so encouraged that God is changing their lives and they have joy and hope on their faces. I was speaking on 'Why We Need the Holy Spirit' and 'The Importance of Prayer and Fasting.' Next week a colleague will speak on 'The Importance of the Word of God and How to Study the Bible'." -T.S.
From Pakistan:
"Thank you for the material you sent for our prison ministry. Our Prison Mission Society is a non-government humanitarian welfare and social organization. It began in 1999 and was officially registered in 2002. Our goal is to create a better world for prisoners, provide educational skills, and equip them spiritually and morally to face the future upon their release. We have worked with prisoners from all over Pakistan during the past 15 years. We minister through Bible study programs to 3,000 to 5,000 inmates weekly in various prisons." -M. S.
