International Buyer - Michigan based

Summary: This position is responsible for purchasing a wide range of materials from commodities to highly technical products. The position is responsible for the successful implementation of the Supply Chain Strategy for those products. The position will evaluate current and new suppliers for quality and compliance with company and worldwide regulations. Responsible for maintaining suitable inventories at lowest total costs and identifying areas for potential cost savings without compromising quality. Incumbent must work with other internal departments on quality or supply issues.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Sources and maintains inventories of commodity products with specific responsibility to source materials for Southwest. Product lines could include but are not limited to Capsicum, Annato, Black Pepper, and other products as needed.

2. Purchasing activities should be aligned with the Supply Chain Strategy designed for every product line.

3. Supports the implementation of strategic changes in the supply chain as directed by the Purchasing Manager.

4. To be familiar with crop growing areas, varieties, weather, and political environments as they relate to our ability to effectively meet our materials needs, both short and long term.

5. Insures suppliers are compliant and External Standards and performs regular audit duties.

6. Review procurement practices for functional improvements.

7. Assists the Purchasing Manager in departmental duties.

8. Coaching/mentoring junior members of the department as needed.

Job Requirements: Education/Experience/Skills:

Required:

* The position requires a bachelor’s degree in general business or agricultural economic studies.

* To be eligible for consideration the successful candidate must have experience as a buyer.

* The position holder must have solid negotiating skills and experience.

* The incumbent should posses an understanding of inventory control and supply chain management.

Desired:

* A graduate degree in a relevant field such as agricultural economics, supply chain management, inventory control, marketing, MBA, or supply matrix is desired.

* A solid understanding of technical product specifications is desired.

* Experience in spice, food or chemical industry.

* Multi-lingual – Spanish, Indian, Chinese

Travel Required: 30-40%

Compensation range: $80,000-$100,000
