IB in the Midwest: Special College Fair
IB seniors and juniors are invited to a night out on Friday, June 26 from 5-6 pm. The Illinois Association of IB Schools (IIBS), is partnering with Loyola University’s Water Tower Campus to host its first college fair for IB students. An impressive array of schoolsin the Midwest will be represented, including: Augustana, DePaul, Dominican, University of Illinois, Knox, Northeastern, Northwestern, University of Chicago, University of Wisconsin-Madison and many others. The event is free of charge and no registration is required. Be sure to join us at Loyola’s downtown campus for this worthwhile and informative meeting.
Class of 2017 Full Diploma Commissioning
Thirty-three students in the Class of 2017 pledged their commitment to the IB full diploma program on May 27. Under the direction of CAS Coordinator, Mrs. Susan Bedell, the sophomores and their full diploma junior peers along with administrators and faculty gathered in the chapel for a candle lighting ceremony marking the students’ entry into the IB program. Lunch and discussion followed in the auditorium foyer. We wish these enterprising IB students much success throughout their two-year experience, and we, in turn, pledge them our ongoing support and encouragement!
In Celebration of IB—Post a Selfie!
Congratulations to Trinity’s ninety-nine IB students who put forth their best efforts during the recent exam season, March-May! In celebration of the IB’s impact across the country, we invite you to participate in this summer’s IB Conference of the Americas which will be held in downtown Chicago. Any IB students in the Classes of 2015 and 2016 are asked to please include your IB student “selfie” for a mosaic project that will be unveiled at the conference. Simply snap your “selfie” and post it to Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram using the hashtag#IBstudent. We look forward to seeing Trinity’s IB cohort included in this diverse group of dynamic young people across the country!
And They’re Off… Extended Essay Launching
With the help of our dedicated librarians, Mrs. Klowden and Mrs. Tindall, the extended essay launching session was a great success. On the first official day of summer vacation, twenty-one full diploma students in the Class of 2016 gathered in the library for three hours on the morning of June 8 to begin work on the nine-month long research and writing project. The extended essay, a core component of the full diploma program, offers preparation for the kind of sophisticated writing that students will be expected to do in college. With the help of their faculty mentors, students refined their research questions, consulted resources, compiled notes, and continued the task of reading and reflecting on their topic. Three revision deadlines— in September, November, and January—are structured so that students can progress successfully throughout the intensive process. The finished product is due February 3, 2016.
