INTERNATIONAL AWARDS CEREMONY 2012 – 2013

APPLICATION FORM

The 2012-13 International Awards Ceremony will be a celebration of inspirational and sector-leading practice in the implementation of the International Dimension in Education. Finalists will be invited to the ceremony itself which will run over a day, with cultural and linguistic workshops for teachers and learners in the morning and the award ceremony itself taking place in the afternoon.

Eligibility:

·  All schools/colleges in Wales are eligible to apply for these awards

Criteria:

·  Schools/colleges can nominate themselves or be nominated by external persons.

·  Nominations must be through the application form returned by 25th January 2013 to

·  Please note International School Award accreditation does not guarantee a successful application – while both the ISA and the Award Ceremony recognise similar work they exist as separate entities

The awards will be judged by a panel including representatives from British Council, Wales International Dimension in Education and CILT Cymru. Short-listed schools/colleges will be invited to bring pupils and students to workshops before the presentation of awards. The award ceremony will take place week commencing 18th March 2013

PART A - Please give a brief description of the International Dimension within your School/College
Include information such as:
·  Which projects you take part in and what has happened
·  How the International Dimension is embedded across the different age groups and areas of the curriculum
·  Wider community involvement

PART B - Which Award are you applying for?
The CILT Cymru Award – Best Use Of Modern Foreign Language To Enhance The International Dimension
This award will demonstrate innovation and how the inclusion of foreign languages has enhanced learners’ understanding and work within the International Dimension.
The ‘Newcomer’ Award - For Schools/Colleges new to international work
This award will celebrate schools/colleges that have just begun to use the International Dimension to engage learners and practitioners, providing high quality learning opportunities that contribute to making progress in changing perceptions of young people towards different cultures.
Using the International Dimension to improve School/College effectiveness
This award will celebrate schools/colleges that have used the International Dimension in Education to establish a culture that focuses on continuous improvement, engaging leaders and practitioners at all levels, enabling them to be key players with other schools and organisations.
The Colegau Cymru/Colleges Wales International Award
This award recognises the endeavours of colleges to enrich their teaching and learning experiences through adding an international dimension to the curriculum.
In your entry:-
Demonstrate the positive effects that a wider international understanding can have on teaching approaches and student learning
Provide evidence of how existing and new initiatives in the use of the international dimension have had an impact on the skills development of students
Demonstrate how using an international focus has resulted in enhanced student motivation and enthusiasm
Provide evidence of the wider impact of an international dimension on the delivery of the WBQ, ESDGC and language learning.
