TEACHER – MIDDLE SCHOOL

QUALIFICATIONS

·  Intermediate/Middle teacher training with major practicum work/experience at the Intermediate and middle level.

·  Intermediate/Middle teacher with a major/minor in Music.

·  Experience leading the school band program.

·  Advanced coursework, diploma or degree in special populations (Aboriginal Education, Learning Services, English Language Learners, Social Emotional Learning) as asset.

·  IB training an asset.

·  Demonstrated knowledge of and is committed to The IB Learner Profile, The IBO Mission statement, The IB Program Standards and Practices.

·  Knowledge of and successful experience in inquiry based instruction.

·  Demonstrated knowledge and is committed to interdisciplinary teaching and Holistic education.

·  Be pedagogically innovative with curriculum and I.B. teaching methodology.

·  Work collaboratively and to meet regularly with the IB Coordinator and department colleagues.

·  Have the capacity to plan units in collaboration in with grade colleagues, curricular colleagues, non-enrolling colleagues and the IB Coordinator.

·  Ensure all expectations set by the I.B.O. concerning programs and procedures are carried out accordingly and in a timely manner.

·  Ensure fundamental concepts of the IB Program (intercultural awareness, communication and holistic education) are imbedded into the course materials.

·  Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, and staff to enhance the school as an IB learning community.

·  Attend IB sanctioned professional development activities and be committed to ongoing IB program professional development.

·  Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional learning and the implementation of high impact instructional strategies

·  Demonstrated ability to plan and organize curriculum, learning spaces, individualized programs

·  Demonstrated ability to manage the changing dynamics of a classroom, or small groups of learners

·  Demonstrated highly effective interpersonal and communication skills. Must be able to communicate complex or sensitive issues in a positive manner

·  Demonstrated ability to manage themselves, learners and others in a conflict situation

·  Demonstrated ability to positively contribute to a team environment and a highly collaborative atmosphere

·  Demonstrated ability to engage learners at all levels

·  Demonstrated ability to use assessment as an effective tool for learning and charting progress

·  Demonstrated ability to model safe, caring and inclusive behaviour and commitment to the success of all learners

·  Experience working with difficult to reach students and families or students and families in crisis

·  Successful recent teaching evaluation or practicum report

·  Eligible for BC Teacher Certification
