Course description

The course is the continuation of Intensive Italian 103 and follows the same accelerated format. Building upon the communication skills and topics studied, you can expect to expand your vocabulary and strengthen your abilities in oral comprehension, speaking, reading and writing. The variety of in-class activities (including videos and authentic Italian material)both oral and in writing, will increase the skills needed for self-expression as well as the knowledge of contemporary Italian life and culture. This course prepares students for placement in Italian 203 (third semester Italian course)

June 26th – june 30th

Capitolo 7-8 La moda. Il cinema, la stampa e la tv. I verbi riflessivi e reciproci. Gliavverbi.Ripassopassatoprossimo.L’imperfetto. Esame 1.

July 3rd- July 7th (no class on July 4th)

Capitolo 9-10 La salute. Le vacanze ed i viaggi. Il comparativo e superlativo ( anche irregolari). Il futuro, il si impersonale. Esame 2

July 10th –July 14th

Capitolo 11-12 lo shopping e la spesa. La casa. Ci-ne e pronomi doppi. L’imperativo. Aggettivi e pronomi indefiniti. I negativi. Esame 3

July 17th –July 21st

Capitolo 13-14 L’ambiente ed il mondo in cui viviamo. La musica ed il teatro. Il condizionale presente e passato. I pronomi relativi. Chi. Esame 4

Evaluation of class performance

Class participation and attendance 25%

Attendance to this course is Mandatory and due to its accelerated nature it is especially important. When supported by written documentation, absences may be excused for a family emergency, illness, or a professional obligation. In case of special situations please do see your instructor. Should you miss class, you are responsible for what you missed. Please partner with a classmate so that you may contact him/her for this information. Students are also required to come to class alwaysprepared (with assignments and questions)

Oral skills 25%

Comprehension of spoken Italian and the ability to use the vocabulary studied and the language forms practiced in class.

Writing assignments/ Homework 25%

Workbook exercises will be collected each day and then returned to you. You will also complete creative dialogues, letters,skits.Late homework will not be graded or accepted for credit

Exams 25%

Each 50 minutes long exam will cover the material covered in the week and it will be each Friday, at the end of the meeting. There will be 4 exams. No final exam.
