Children’s Crisis Project

Western Tidewater Community Services Board is the fiscal agent responsible for implementing HPR-V’s: ID DD Children’s Crisis Project. The ID DD Children’s Crisis Project was created by the state to improve the systematic response when assisting families and support systems of children who have been identified as having an intellectual or developmental disabilities in an effort to prevent or diminish the impact of a full blown crisis.

What is the mission of the ID DD Children’s Crisis project?

To assist families and their support systems in developing and maintaining a stable and happy home for children who have been identified as having an intellectual or developmental disability.

What is the ID DD Children’s Crisis Project?

ID DD Children’s Crisis Project is a 24/7 mobile crisis intervention program which providescrisis support to Children 17 and under with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.

In addition, the project provides training and resources for families and providers to help improve the child’s stable placement within the community.

What is the goal of the ID DD Children’s Crisis Project?

To provide in-home and community based crisis assistance services to individuals and their families in order to improve the quality of life and decrease facility and hospitalization placements.

Who is Eligible for ID DD Children’s Crisis Project Services?

Children 17 years and under who have a documented diagnosis of Intellectual or Developmental Disability who are experiencing crisis due to behavioral or psychiatric status that their family and support system need assistance to resolve.

Trainings and resources are available to the general public: families, CSB/BHA staff, private providers, and community partners.

What is the Definition of an ID/DD Children’s Crisis:

The definition of an ID DD Children’s Crisis is any change in a child’s typical behavior that places themselves, a caregiver, familymember, or anyone else in danger. The change typically is a result of their reaction to a triggering event that they are unable to effectively cope with in the absence of supportive

intervention.

What does ID DD Children’s Crisis Project Provide?

ID DD Children’s Mobile Crisis Support staff will respond to crisis calls within 2 hours. Refer individual, or family for follow-up (e.g. community/prevention services, emergency medical, CSB intake, etc.)

Who can make a referral to the ID DD Children’s Crisis Project?

Referrals can be made by anyone: family members, Emergency Services, Case Managers, Private Providers, community partners, etc.

How to access support during a crisis:
