INTEGRITY CONTRACT
______
In early May, students will be taking the AP (Advanced Placement) exam. If they pass this exam, they will receive college credit.
To that end, this is a college-level class. As such, the expectations are also college-level.
Thus, if a student is caught cheating, the consequences are somewhat college-level as well.
(Typically, if a student is caught cheating in college, they are expelled from college or at least the class).
______
The consequences of cheating in my class include (but are not limited to):
subtracting 100-200 points from student’s participation grade
earning a zero on the assignment/exam
referral to glc
If a student cheats on a homework assignment, the zero is for the entire homework packet.
If a student cheats on an opener, the zero is for the entire opener packet.
Typically, I catch a few students cheating every year. It is always heart-wrenching and I do my best to prevent it.
______
One question on every college application is:
Do you have any reason to doubt this student’s academic integrity?
As you are probably aware, college admittance is increasingly competitive. Having one’s teacher or GLC answer this question with a “yes” is going to severely limit the student’s chance of gaining admittance.
______
My definition for cheating or “breaching one’s integrity” is:
“Any action which could potentially give oneself or another an unfair advantage.”
______
Please talk to your son/daughter about this issue and remind them to make good decisions. The consequences are severe.
______
By signing this, I am stating that I have read this document thoroughly and that I understand the consequences should a breach of integrity occur.
