Fat Quarter drawing for January- Winter Wonderland

Fat quarter themes are a little different this year. We’ll give you a song title that should evoke a theme or idea. Use your imagination and have a little fun. Bring your fat quarter to the meeting with your name pinned on or you can use an address sticker.

Message from the President

Martha S.

Happy Quilt Year and may your resolutions include finishing one project that’s been lurking in the corner of the sewing room, or at least buy the backing for it. It’s always more fun to buy new fabric. Aren’t we lucky to live in Central Oregon with the best quilt shops and the best, ever changing landscape around us?

Please remember to thank our local shops for their support each month and their class offerings each season. We grow in our quilting skills learning from others, whether in our own workshops or in a quilt shop class. We’ll be doing more education in schools, more fundraising activities and will add new activities in preparation for our 30th anniversary in 2013. Our popular member techniques meeting will be repeated in May, with even more tips and tricks from our members. I’ll let Kayla and Lisa tell you more.

We are still looking for several key committee members for the year. An audit committee is required for a short term. A bylaw review committee is in place but needs additional members. We’d like to see several members step up into new positions of fundraising, education, publicity and our new quilt show boutique committee. A partner/apprentice for the annual quilt show and members to help our raffle ticket sales are very important. Please consider how you can contribute. YOU make the guild as wonderful as it is.

Thank you… lots of fun ahead!

Important Reminders

The meeting begins at 6:45 pm. Unless you are assisting with setup, please don’t enter the meeting room before 6:15 pm. When you arrive at the meeting, remember to check-in at the membership table and pick up your door prize ticket if you are wearing your cloth nametag. As always, please turn your cell phones off during the meeting.

Treasurer’s Report

Twyla B.

Quilting ladies -- Our Guild received a $50 Christmas gift when I was sorting through all the Treasurer documents to pass along to Wynne for 2012. I found a small wallet in the bottom of a box with $50 cash in it. I am depositing it in the bank tomorrow -- it is not income, just an increase to our cash balance.

So the Treasurer's Report is:
1/1/11 cash balance - $12,804.98
Additional cash -- $50.00
2011 income - $19,024.00
2011 expenses - $20,173.91
12/31/11 cash balance - $11,705.07
We are ending the year with a net deficit of $1,149.91

QuiltWorks

926 NE Greenwood Ave., Bend 541-728-0527 www.quiltworks.com

Happy New Year everyone and I hope that you are looking forward to 2012 as much as we are. We're starting off our year with over 30 great classes with instructors such as Barbara Copeland, Vickie Anast, Kim McCray, Jill Monley as well as our own Mary Ann, Bev, Crys, Karen and Tiffany. Some new classes, fresh ideas, and lots of fun for doing something with your scraps.

Open House - On Saturday, January 7th from 10 to 4 we are having an Open House to promote our winter classes. If you sign up by January 7th on any classes (except those offered through Bend Park and Rec) you'll get a 10% discount.

Our gallery show for January is Sandy Feigner as the Featured Quilter and the novel group from QuiltWorks with their interpretations from Elegance of the Hedgehog. Both are fantastic exhibits and always inspiring.

We are partnering again with the Deschutes Public Library for the Novel Idea. Last year we had 18 quilts inspired by the novel Kapitoil and it really was the hit of their Novel Idea program, (at least in my humble opinion). If you want to participate in this year’s novel join us at QuiltWorks on Sunday, January 8th, 1:00 for a meeting to discuss the project. The quilts will be hung in April in our gallery and although a short timeline it will be long on impact for the thousands of participants in the Novel Idea. Partnering with the library for this project is a wonderful way to share our love of quilting with the greater Central Oregon community!
