Integrated Pest Management (IPM) policy of Questar III

Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is a systematic approach to managing pests focusing on long-term prevention or suppression with minimal impact on human health, the environment and non-target organisms. IPM incorporates all reasonable measures for control on structural and landscape pest to minimize the amount of toxicity of pesticides used in the district. Our strategies for managing pest populations will be based upon the pest species and whether that species poses a threat to our students, staff, property or environment.

When it is determined that a pesticide must be used in order to meet important management goals, the least hazardous material adequate to control the pest will be chosen and label directions shall be followed. All applications are done by currently licensed and certified personnel and comply with all Federal, State and local regulations. The contractor currently being used is:

Questar III is required to maintain a list of persons in parental relation, faculty and staff who wish to receive (48) hour prior written notification of certain pesticide applications. You must register to receive (48) hour prior notification of pesticide application that are scheduled to occur. (form on back of this notice). The following pesticide applications are NOT subject to prior notification requirements:

·  A school remains unoccupied for a continuous (72) hours following an application

·  Antimicrobial products

·  Nonvolatile rodenticides in tamper resistant bait states in areas inaccessible to children

·  Nonvolatile insecticidal baits in tamper resistant bait states in areas inaccessible to children

·  Boric acid and disodium octoborate tetrahydrate

·  The application of EPA designated biopesticides

·  The application of EPA designated exempt material under 40 CFR 152.25

·  The use of aerosol products with a direct spray in containers of (18) fluid ounces or less when used to protect individuals from an imminent threat from stinging and biting insects including venomous spiders, bees, wasps, and hornets.

In the event of an emergency application necessary to protect against an imminent threat to human health, a good faith effort will be made to supply written notification to those on the (48) hour prior notification list.
