The following reflects the understanding and Agreement between us regarding the below-described services I shall provide for you.
Required Format:
You shall provide for my review and critique, a hard copy of your manuscript in proper submission- format (12-pt font, one-inch margins, unbound/unstapled double-spaced text) (the “Manuscript”). Said Manuscript consists of _____ pages.
Nature of Services:
In consideration of your payment of the below-described Fee, I shall perform the following services: Within three (3) months of my receipt of the Fee, I shall perform a comprehensive reading of your Manuscript and related documents, based upon which I shall prepare and provide to you (i) a two-page, typed Comment Letter (or longer at my discretion) critiquing same, and (ii) suggested line edits and/or comments which shall be handwritten directly on said documents. The nature and extent of such line edits and/or comments shall be in my sole discretion (all of the foregoing collectively referred to as the “Services”).
You understand and agree that such line edits and/or comments are purely subjective, based upon my experience as an author/professional in the industry, and are in no way intended as copy-editing. You also understand that given the subjective nature of such services, I do not guarantee specific or overall results or returns from my services. Your disagreement, or the disagreement of any third party, with my services, shall not be a basis for a refund of the Fee. I will have no liability for damages arising out of my services performed under this agreement. I will not be liable under any circumstances for any indirect, consequential or incidental damages, and the amount of my liability under this agreement is limited to profits actually received by me from the performance of this agreement.
Moreover, you agree that my critique is intended solely for your purpose. By signing below, you hereby agree that, absent a written agreement between us, you shall not use any comments provided by me as “blurbs” or “advance quotes” or as any other statement of recommendation of your Manuscript, whether in query letters, submissions, galleys, published books, or any other written, published, or otherwise displayed format (including digital format) released to any third party and/or the general public for consumption.
Fee for Services.
My fees for such services are $2.50 per page, equal to $______(the “Fee”). The Fee shall be paid to me by cash, check, or Paypal deposit, simultaneous with your submission. I shall have no obligation to undertake the Services until such Fee is received by me, in the event I undertake such Services prior to receiving the Fee, and the Fee is not thereafter received, I shall have no obligation to provide said comment letter to you, nor to return any copy of your Manuscript or related documents. In the event I have not performed the Services within three (3) months of your payment, you shall be entitled to a full refund of the Fee, unless otherwise agreed by us in writing.
Any additional Services associated with said Manuscript not expressly set forth above, including any follow-up questions or comments regarding said Services, and/or additional critiques of revised versions of your Manuscript, shall be subject to an additional charge, unless otherwise agreed between us in writing.
At my request, you shall also provide a pre-paid, Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope covering the First-Class mailing costs associated with the return of your Manuscript and related documents.
Author’s Representation of Work.
You represent that the work you are submitting under this letter Agreement is original in nature, and that you have the absolute right and discretion to submit same to me for the Services requested.
