Primary Purpose of Role
The Auslan LOTE Teacher is responsible for the delivery and development of Vicdeaf’s Auslan Programs including the delivery of LOTE Auslan to various schools in Melbourne and Victoria and resource development. This position will work closely with the Auslan Programs Coordinator & Auslan Lead Teacher.

2.  Outcome: Provide Auslan training and Auslan Programs support
Deliver of a range of Auslan Programs- predominantly Auslan LOTE in schools, but also Auslan community classes, private tuition, Deaf Awareness Training and Basic Auslan (DATBA), Auslan for Families and Auslan in the workplace. / Indicative time

Performance Indicators
§  Classes are taught during business hours and after hours when required
§  Classes run smoothly and consistently and when required, other classes are covered to avoid class cancellation
§  Teaching style and delivery methods (including via videoconferencing) are tailored to suit varying needs
§  Classes, training and tutoring are well structured and provide a positive learning experience for students
§  Vicdeaf resources both print and electronic are utilised during classes
§  Feedback and evaluation from teachers and students is regularly sought and improvements where necessary are made
3.  Outcome: Improve and further develop Auslan Programs teaching resources and programs
Under the direction of the Auslan Programs Lead Teacher and in consultation with teachers, students and other stakeholders- research and develop resources suitable for Auslan LOTE and the varying range of Auslan Programs. Explore traditional and innovate formats and platforms including but not limited to: print, video, online content and learning management systems. / Indicative time

§  With the Auslan Programs Team, regularly review current resources and update and amend as required
§  Contribute to the research of current sign language teaching practices and resources in local, national and international settings
§  In conjunction with Auslan Programs Team, consult with teachers, students and other stakeholders to identify needs and current gaps
§  Work collaboratively with Marketing and Engagement and Sign Language Video Productions to develop resources
4.  Outcome: Maintain a high standard of quality control for Auslan Programs
Ensure accurate records and handover materials are kept and utilised within the Auslan Programs Team to ensure consistent and efficient delivery of classes. / Indicative time

§  Accurate and up to date records of all Auslan Programs activities are maintained
§  Decision making is in line with areas of authority and in consultation with team and manager
§  Work is carried out in accordance with Vicdeaf policies, procedures and Auslan Programs work instruction documents
§  All matters pertaining to clients, commercial in confidence and other sensitive information remains confidential

§  Actively participate and contriubute in team meetings. Give feedback and contriubute ideas to the future development of the Learning, Partnerships and Community Engagement team.
§  Attend regular meetings with Program Manager to keep updated on work committment
§  Keep the Program Manager informed about any feedback from the deaf, hard of hearing people
§  Undertake other tasks as directed
§  Participate in training and personal development opportunties in accordance with the performance deveopment procedure
§  Update and maintain Quality procedures as advised by the Program Manager
§  Take an active role in creating a safe and healthy work environment
§  Perform duties in accordance with relevant Occupational Health Safety and Equal Employment Legistation and ensure policy and confidentiality is respected
Knowledge, Skills & Experience (critical for successful performance in the role)
§  Knowledge of and experience with the Deaf community and Auslan learning pathways and demonstrated ability to provide high quality Auslan teaching
§  Excellent interpersonal skills and well-developed communication skills (both signed and written)
§  Previous experience in contribution to or development of resources highly desirable
§  Well-developed organisational and time management skills
§  Flexible and positive attitude to working in diverse teams and with a range of students and customers
Qualifications / Certifications / Memberships (essential to the role)
§  Fluency in Auslan as a native user essential
§  Qualification in Training and Assessment or other teaching accreditation highly desirable
§  Membership to ATAV or other professional bodies advantageous
Travel Frequency (Regular, Infrequent, Rare)
§  Some travel may be required for specific projects, classes, expos or events. Travel could be in Melbourne metro, outer metro areas or regional Victoria.
