English 10 requirements are located on the TEA website:

Course Philosophy: This course will focus on further developing the students’ ability to formulate opinions more clearly and logically and expressing these thoughts in writing. Students will be challenged to increase their own personal skills. Students will be encouraged to express both verbally and in writing their opinions in an effort to become a more critical reader and sophisticated writer. Students will complete a variety of writing assignments, along with various other projects throughout the year. These skills will help the students do well in any course, as well as be successful in life.

Spiritual Emphasis: The instructor will exhibit and encourage critical thinking regarding the assigned texts. This will include the consideration of the worldview presented by each author in light of Biblical teaching. Thus, the fear of the Lord is literally the beginning of knowledge.

Grading Policy: Daily Work – 50%, Tests, Projects – 50%

Semester Exams: 20% of a student’s semester average

BINDER: Students will be required to have a binder specific to English. This will be checked periodically for a grade. There should be sections for Class Notes, Grammar & Writing, Literature, Latin & Greek Roots, and Quizzes & Tests

Composition Book: Students will also be required to a have composition notebook specific to English. We will use this for journal entries. This will be checked periodically for a grade also.

CELL PHONES: There is a time and place for cell phones, but that will not be during class. Keep your phones put away or it will be taken up.

TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS: We will use technology occasionally. Students may bring a laptop, tablet, or “notebook” to class to use during these projects. When assignments do not pertain to technology, students should not have out these items. School policy for technology usage does apply and does not exempt students from assignments if a violation occurs.

Turnitin.com: We will use this site to turn in most writing assignments. Instructions for setting up an account and/or adding a class will be provided to students at a later time.

ACADEMIC HONESTY: Cheating is not tolerated under any circumstance. School policy will be adhered in each circumstance.

ATTENDANCE AND MAKEUP WORK Being present and prepared is the key to success in any class but if a student is absent, follow school policy for all make-up work. It is the student’s responsibility to turn in missed work, schedule a time to take missed quizzes or tests, and to do it in a timely manner. If you are absent from the class for a school function, please remember these functions are not excuses for not having work done. Extracurricular functions require work to be back in when you return to class.
