Instructions for Recital Programs
1. Programs must be sent via email in the approved template on page 3 to 2 weeks before your recital. Further information is available at www.uh.edu/class/music/forms
2. Please approve your program with your private lesson instructor before sending your program.
*** UH MSM STYLE GUIDE***
The Moores School of Music at UH has adopted a style guide that applies to all university recitals. If your template is not filled out properly, it will be returned to you and it will need to be resubmitted.
1. If the majority of your recital is accompanied, (i.e. a vocalist with piano accompaniment throughout) your accompanist’s name goes at the top of the page under the studio name.
If you are joined by another performer for a specific piece, (i.e. a flute duet at the end of your recital) their name should be listed only under the name of the piece they are performing in.
2. Rules for titles and movements
a. Major works should be italicized, but as there is great variety within each genre, please check with your instructor that your titles are correct. If you are unsure, ask your instructor for clarification!!
b. Numbered movements are denoted by No. (capitalized) and Opus is denoted as Op. (capitalized)
c. All key names are capitalized (Major and Minor)
d. Many contemporary pieces have stylized or non-traditional titles. Please make sure these are correct in your template.
3. ALL composers must have dates. The front desk is not responsible for finding these dates for you. The composer’s full name should be listed even if normally shortened (i.e. J.S. Bach should be listed as Johann Sebastian Bach). If you are performing multiple works by the same composer, subsequent pieces should be listed by last name only with no dates. If no dates are available for contemporary composers, please note this where the date would normally go. Arrangers do not need dates.
4. If your recital does not have an intermission, please do not include it in your program.
