Instructions for Obtaining McNair GRE Fee Reduction Vouchers and

McNairGraduateSchool Application Fee Waivers

GRE Fee Reduction Vouchers

Beginning in 2009, the Educational Testing Service (ETS) discontinued their policy of providing McNair Programs with free GRE fee waivers for distribution to McNair Scholars. Only available to us now are “fee reduction” vouchers that require McNair Scholars to pay 50% of the cost to take the test. Moreover, we do not receive them free; the McNair Scholars Program has to purchase the vouchers and pay the other half of the cost of the test. Therefore, we want to purchase the exact number that we will need so we will not waste money. (Students in many disciplines will not be required to take a Subject Test.)

Please note that ETS will accept only one General Test voucher and one Subject Test voucher per student. It does not matter whether you get a voucher from the McNair Scholars Program or from the Office of Financial Aid, ETS will not accept more than one voucher for each type of test from an individual. Please draft your message as follows.

GraduateSchoolApplication Fee Waivers

If you need McNair graduate school application fee waiver forms, please make those requests by sending Ms. Hill a different email message. These are “true” fee waivers for the graduate schools that waive application fees for McNair Scholars. There is no cost to you as a Scholar, and there is no cost to our McNair Scholars Program. Also the deadline for making these requests is rolling, but you need to pay attention to the deadlinesestablished by the schools to which you are applying, and you need to send Ms. Hill the request at least TWO WEEKS before you need to have the forms in your hands.
