Jane Brown
Discussion / 375000 children under care in licensed or registered programs through BFS.
Jane began by discussing credentials in Pre-K, Head Start, and licensed child care centers, as well as registered family child care homes. Jane recommended that we change the language on our DTAE website about our TCC programs (so that it's clear that our TCC's are accepted credentials by the Pre-K programs). Jane talked about the work of the Scholarships and Incentives program, as well as program eligibility and results. See attached PowerPoint presentation. Sherry Lowery asked whether US citizenship is an eligibility requirement for Scholarships and Incentives. Jane answered that students must have a green card or work visa, but citizenship is not required.

marcy smith
Discussion / Marcy talked about course revisions that were completed during 2007. Those revisions are now complete. When courses were revised, NAEYC accreditation for Associate Degree programs were taken into consideration, to make that process easier for colleges that want to pursue that accreditation. The Exceptionalities specialization courses were not revised because they were relatively new courses, but they should be revised in the next revision cycle.

Larry roberson
Discussion / Larry discussed updates to the ECCE portion of the DTAE website, including an update of personnel contacts and local consortia information. He also talked about including a section for information for program faculty (that might include upcoming conferences and other pertinent information). He discussed wanting to include links to other agencies under the Employment opportunities section (rather than specific job announcements).
The standard for the associate degree is updated on the website. Gary larson mentioned discrepancies on the website, and larry asked him to submit those so they could be reviewed.
Larry talked about the upcoming ASSET/ compass prep workshops at ten sites across the state.
Larry spoke about the new birth through five bachelor's degree programs at Georgia state and valdosta state. He encouraged faculty to inform students to go directly to program faculty (rather than through admissions) when inquiring about the programs, since they are so new.
A memorandum of agreement is being completed with bright from the start, so that bfs and Dtae can collaborate whenever possible.
larry asked for volunteers to serve on a subcommittee to look at online learning in early childhood programs across the state.

PreK update

Mary Mazerky
Discussion / Mary gave an update on the georgia pre-k program, and specifically discussed upcoming changes to the credentials for pre-k assistant teachers (see attached flyer with updated official information). She stated that based on nieer's benchmarks for quality pre-k programs, georgia meets 8 out of 10 benchmarks. The two that are not met are teacher credentials, both lead and assistant teachers. the current initiative is to bring georgia in line with the benchmark for teacher assistants.
starting in 2008-2009, existing pk assistant teachers must begin a credential program (cda or higher), and new hires must have it. By 2010-11, assistant teachers must have the credential in order to work (and Mary is hopeful that there may be a salary raise at that time, though none is in place right now).
