Our branch committee has become a finely tuned working group, who has a passion to ensure the increased awareness of waste management within the Eastern Cape region. Our Committee now consists of the following members:

2. FINANCIAL:
The Savings Account is R 8 500.00 and the 32-day call account is R117, 657.85 as of 27October 2006. There are still numerous outstanding conference related monies that need to be received into the savings account, but these payments are being received.
3. SECRETARIAL & MEMBERSHIP:
We have been promoting membership at every function and we received 12 applications for membership received throughout the month.

- MEETING WITH SUE BENNINGFIELD OF KZN BRANCH – 04th OCTOBER 2006
The EC Committee Members met with Sue Beningfield of the KZN Branchto discuss the status of education within the IWM and also to provide more insight to the education portfolio and how the education portfolio is run in the KZN branch. Sue encouraged the EC Branch to develop their own awards projects and gave useful advice on how best to set this up and how to gain support from Government Departments, such as DEAET. A further discussion was held regarding the PEER review process for conference papers.
5. SITE VISIT – LANGKLOOF BRICKS, PORT ELIZABETH – 13th OCTOBER 2006
A site visit was arranged at Langkloof Bricks in Port Elizabeth to see how they are utilising tyres as fuel in the production of bricks.
6. SET UP OF PORT ELIZABETH BRANCH – 13th OCTOBER 2006
The EC Branch met with all interested parties to set up the Port Elizabethsub-committee of the EC IWM. The meeting was well attended with interested members from all faculties within the waste industry and we look forward to finalising the Branch in the very near future.

8. TRANSFORMATION
The East Cape Branch Committee is 69% BEE, including co-opted members.
9. GENERAL:
I would like to thank the EC Branch Committee and our members for their hard work and commitment over the past month. We look forward to an exciting new year with further initiatives to increase the awareness and education of individuals within our industry. With the development of our PE sub-committee, I am confident that our region will grow in leaps and bounds within the next few months, for the benefit of all members, industries and Government Departments alike.
