1.  Physics Olympiad and Tournament

46th International Physics Olympiad 2015 was held in Mumbai, India from 5 to 12 July, 2015 where 383 students from 83 country participated. The five team members who represented Singapore are Chua Yee Shuen Darren, Garett Tok Ern Liang, Joel Tan Shi Quan and Joshua Lim Yong Kiat and Peter Yuen Ho Hin. Singapore was placed 10th, winning 1 Gold and 4 Silver medals. The Singapore delegation was led by Rajdeep Singh Rawat and Nidhi Sharma while Fabiola Soong-Lip Yoke Suet and Leong Tze Kwang joined the teams as observers.

16th Asian Physics Olympiad 2015 was held in Hangzhou, China from 3 to 11 May, 2015 where 25 countries participated. The eight team members who represented Singapore are Lim Yu Chen, Joshua Lim Yong Kiat, Peter Yuen Ho Hin, Eric Tay Wei Shinn, Jaren Sta Maria, Garett Tok, Joel Tan, Darren Chua Yee Shuen. Singapore was placed 2nd winning 6 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze medals. In addition Mr. Garett Tok was awarded the MRS-S Award for the “Most Creative Solution in Theory”. The Singapore delegation was led by Paul Lee and Tao Ye while Nidhi Sharma, Sandar Lim, and Bernard Ricardo joined the teams as observers.

28th International Young Physicists’ Tournament 2015 was organized in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, from 27 June to 4 July 2015 where Singapore team once again clinched the 1st position in a field of 27 countries and was awarded the Gold medal. The Singapore team was comprised of Koh Jin Ming, Shen Yu Jun, Lee Yu Tse, Wittmann Goh Ghin Fong and Lim Jun Heng. The Singapore delegation was led by Yeo Ye, Sze Guan Kheng, Tan Joy and Huan Yan Qi.

28th Singapore Physics Olympiad 2015 was organized in two rounds, the theory round on 17 Oct 2015 at attended by 235 participants out of which 50 were shortlisted who appeared for practical round held 19 Nov 2015. A total of 8 gold medals, 20 silver medals and 15 bronze medals, 18 honorable mentions were awarded.

8th Singapore Junior Physics Olympiad (SJPhO), 2015 was held on 30 July 2015 with 1557 participants.27 gold, 63 silver, 81 bronze medals and 345 Honourable mentions were awarded.

2.  IPS Outreach to Astronomy

18th Annual IPS-Nanyang Polytechnic Astronomy Competition 2015 was held on 13 March 2015 at Nanyang Polytechnic, School of Engineering. About 16 schools with about 160 students and teachers participated in the event.

22nd Annual IPS-NYP Astronomy Retreat 2015 was held at Eagle Ranch, Port Dickson, Malaysian from 14 to 17 June 2015 with about 130 participants from Singapore and some from Malaysian astro-fraternity. Participants were entertained and informed by a series of nine lectures on physics and astronomy, as well as a very enjoyable bird-watching expedition led by Dr. Lee Lay Tin and Ms. Cecilia Yip. Eight pairs of binoculars and several astronomy-themed quiz prizes were given out.

3.  IPS 6th Annual Meeting 2015 was held from 4-6 March, 2015 at the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, NTU. This year saw 171 presentations (6 Plenary, 95 Oral and about 70 Poster presentations). The meeting organized several dedicated sessions to celebrate International Year of Light. The event received institutional support from Department of Physics, NUS and the Division of Physics and Applied Physics, SPMS, NTU as well as the Centre for Quantum Technologies.

4.  IPS AWARDS 2015 were given at a banquet of the IASConference on New Physics at the Large Hadron Collider 2016 at Chui Huay Lim Club on 3 March 2016. The winners of IPS Awards 2015 are:

g)  Cadi Scientific Medal – Remus Chua (Navagis Asia Pacific Ltd)

h)  Cadi Scientific Medal (TASOS Group Award) – Albert Ho, Albert Lim, Ang Poh Seng and Soh Kim Mun

i)  The Crescendas Medal – Sze Guan Kheng (RI)

j)  The Crescendas Medal – Tan Chong Chay (Hongkah Secondary)
