SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

1RULES

1.1The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.

1.2The prescriptions of the [Insert RYA or ISA]will apply.

1.3The rules of the Irish Multihull Association will apply.

1.4Racing rule(s) Signals AP, 28.1, 35, 44.1, 60.1(a), 62.2, 63.1, 66, A4, A5 willbe changed. The changes are detailed in the sailing instructions.

2NOTICES TO COMPETITORS

Notices to competitors will be posted on the official notice board(s) located [Insert location of Official Notice Board]

3CHANGES TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

Any change to the sailing instructions will be posted before 0900 on the day it will take effect, except that any change to the schedule of races will be posted by 2000 on the day before it will take effect.

4SIGNALS MADE ASHORE

4.1Signals made ashore will be displayed at main flagpole at[Insert Club Name].

4.2When flag AP is displayed ashore, ‘1 minute’ is replaced with ‘not less than 45 minutes’ in the race signal AP.

5SCHEDULE OF RACES

5.2Seven races are scheduled.

8THE COURSE

8.1The diagrams in Attachment Ashow the courses, including the approximate angles between legs, the order in which marks are to be passed,and the side on which each mark is to be left.

8.2The Course to be used will be indicated by a board on the side of the committee boat.

9 MARKS

9.1Marks 1, 2, 3, 3S, 3P will be [Insert Description of marks]. The Start/finish mark will be [Insert Description of marks].

10THE START

10.1The starting line will be between a staff on the committee boat displaying an orange flag at the starboard end and start/finish mark.

10.2A boat starting later than 5 minutes after her starting signal will be scored Did Not Start without a hearing. This changes rules A4 and A5.

10.3If flag U has been displayed as the preparatory signal, no part of the boat’s hull, crew or equipment shall be in the triangle formed by the ends of the starting line and the first mark during the last minute before her starting signal. If a boat breaks this rule and is identified, she shall be disqualified without a hearing but not if the race is restarted or resailed or postponed or abandoned before the starting signal. This changes rule 26.

10.4The start/finish markwill be moved after the startto form the finish line.

11CHANGE OF THE NEXT LEG OF THE COURSE

11.1To change the next leg of the course, the race committee will move the original mark (or the finishing line) to a new position.

11.2Minor Course changes may not be signalled.

12THE FINISH

The finishing line will be between the Start/Finish mark and a mast on the committee boat displaying a blue flag.

13PENALTY SYSTEM

Rule 44.1 is changed so that the Two-Turns Penalty is replaced by the One-Turn Penalty.

14TIME LIMITS

Boats failing to finish within 30 minutes after the first boat sails the course and finishes will be scored Did Not Finish without a hearing. This changes rules 35, A4 and A5.

15PROTESTS AND REQUESTS FOR REDRESS

15.1Protest forms are available at the race office, located at the race office. Protests and requests for redress or reopening shall be delivered there within the appropriate time limit.

15.2The protest time limit is 90 minutes after the last boat has finished the last race of the day or the race committee signals no more racing today.

15.3Notices will be posted no later than 30 minutes after the protest time limit to inform competitors of hearings in which they are parties or named as witnesses. Hearings will be held in the protest room, located at[insert location of protest room],beginning at the time posted.Decisions of any protest will be completed prior to the prize giving. An appeal may be lodged after this time and may result in a retrospective change in the result.

15.4Notices of protests by the race committee or protest committee will be posted to inform boats under rule 61.1(b).

15.6Breaches of instructions 17, 18, 19 or 20 will not be grounds for a protest by a boat. This changes rule 60.1(a). Penalties for these breaches may be less than disqualification if the protest committeeso decides. The scoring abbreviation for a discretionary penalty imposed under this instruction will be DPI.

15.7On the last scheduled day of racing a request for reopening a hearing shall be delivered (a) within the protest time limit if the requesting party was informed of the decision on the previous day;(b)no later than 30 minutes after the requesting party was informed of the decision on that day. This changes rule 66.

15.8On the last scheduled day of racing a request for redress based on a protest committee decision shall be delivered no later than 30 minutes after the decision was posted. This changes rule 62.2.

16SCORING

16.1Three races are required to be completed to constitute a series.

16.2When fewer than five races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores.

16.3When five races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score. When seven races have been completed, A boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.

16.5Scoring will be on the basis of average laptimes.

16.6Boats in class C2 may sailless number of rounds.

16.6Corrected times will be calculated using the boats SCHRS handicap and average laps.

17SAFETY REGULATIONS

17.1Personal flotation devices shall be worn at all time afloat except briefly while changing or adjusting clothing or personal equipment. Wet suits and dry suits are not personal flotation devices.

17.2A boat that retires from a race shall notify the race committee as soon as possible.

18REPLACEMENT OF CREW OR EQUIPMENT

18.1Substitution of competitors will not be allowed without prior written approval of the race committee.

18.2Substitution of damaged or lost equipment will not be allowed unless authorized by the race committee. Requests for substitution shall be made to the committee at the first reasonable opportunity.

18.3Boats shall display their correct sail numbers. Any boat that desires tosail with a different sail number shall request permission in writing from the race committee. Permission will not normally be granted except in exceptional circumstances.

19EQUIPMENT AND MEASUREMENT CHECKS

A boat or equipment may be inspected at any time for compliance with the class rules and sailing instructions. On the water, a boat can be instructed by a race committee equipment inspector or measurer to proceed immediately to a designated area for inspection.

20TRASH DISPOSAL

Trash may be placed aboard support and race committee boats.

21RADIO COMMUNICATION

Except in an emergency, a boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones.

22PRIZES

Overall Open Championship prizes for the Championship (SCHRS) to 1st. 2nd. 3rd. in Classes C1 and C2

A Youth Prize will be awarded to the boat whose helm and crew are both under the age of 18 on the day before the event.

Classes with 6 boats or more will be awarded a separate prize. [Ammend as required]

22RISK STATEMENT

22.1Rule 4 of the Racing Rules of Sailing states: “The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue to race is hers alone”

Sailing by its nature is an unpredictable sport and therefore inherently involves an element of risk. By taking part in the event, each competitor agrees and acknowledges that:

(a)They are aware of the inherent element of risk involved in the sport and accept responsibility for the exposure of themselves, their crew and their boat to such inherent risk whilst taking part in the event;

(b)They are responsible for the safety of themselves, their crew, their boat and their other property whether afloat or ashore;

(c)They accept responsibility for any injury, damage or loss to the extent caused by their own actions or omissions;

(d)Their boat is in good order, equipped to sail in the event and they are fit to participate;

(e)The provision of a race management team, patrol boats and other officials and volunteers by the event organiser does not relieve them of their own responsibilities.

(f)The provision of patrol boat cover is limited to such assistance, particularly in extreme weather conditions as can be practically provided in the circumstances.

23INSPECTIONS

23.1The fact that the race committee conducts inspections of a boat does not reduce the responsibilities of each competitor set out in this Notice of Race.

24INSURANCE

24.1Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of £2,000,000 per incident or the equivalent.
