July 27, 2012
Call Attendees:
- Organizers/administrators:
- Holly Billie (Injury Prevention Specialist, CDC, co-lead of project)
- Nancy Bill (Injury Prevention Manager, IHS, co-lead of project)
- Marguerite Carroll (Falmouth Institute, Project Manager)
- Laura Brooks (Falmouth Institute, Curriculum Development)
- Basla Andolsun (Falmouth Institute, Curriculum Development)
Agenda:
- New info from Holly, Nancy on course delivery – online or in-person?
- Online course was always part of eventual plan, but with travel we’ll need to move it up.
- Holly share training options on call with IHS. Hasn’t gotten feedback yet, but everyone realizes courses will be moving in this direction.
- Q from Marguerite: Should we develop pilot for online delivery?
- A: Whatever end product is should be piloted. Pilot both in-person and on-line versions.
- Proceed with plan for Spring pilot testing
- Questions on plan for delivering course outline?
- Will there be an instructor guide?
- That is part of manual. Manual is about how to put on the course.
- I’m not familiar with Blackboard/Digital Chalk?
- Blackboard is for live delivery, Digital Chalk is for delivery of static content
- Blackboard is good for longer-term delivery, video and audio conferencing, discussion boards, break-out groups
- HHS (not sure which agency) has contract w/Blackboard
- Progress of workgroups
- Have had 1-2 meetings with each group. How has it been going in Nancy and Holly’s opinions?
- Going well. Some folks are a little quiet, but moving forward.
- Take attendance at start of call. Have team directly identify selves.
- Ask specific people for feedback so everyone contributes – or at least get concurrence from all.
- Once people get used to format may feel more comfortable contributing.
- Is Webex necessary?
- Yes. Recording function. Ability to share docs.
- Make sure on future calls docs are up on screen for all to see and follow along with.
- Holly and Nancy will not be able to make every call.
- Put programmatic decisions in queue and email Holly and Nancy.
- Still on track for o piloting in March/April
- Need to include WG leaders on core group calls yet?
- Not yet. Maybe at end of August. They may have feedback.
- WG 1 seems to be at different place with need to know vs. nice to know.
- All groups have been invited to sit in on other groups, but no one has done so yet. All materials are available to everyone.
- Group leaders, at a minimum, should look at notes from all groups and see what others are doing. Make sure all leaders are on emails where call notes are sent.
- Laura will be taking a position with a new company and Basla will be taking over as Curriculum and Instruction Manager.
- Other items
- Holly will forward article from CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report called “Public Health Surveillance in the US: Evolution and Challenges.
- Is this helpful for a particular group?
- Make available as resource for all groups.
To Do:
Marguerite: Try to figure out which HHS agency is using Blackboard
Basla: Include all WG leaders on emails with call notes
