  7. Asthma running in August issue of Indianapolis Women’s Magazine which will include 12 page insert
  8. Spacers- ISDH has been getting allot of questions for people that don’t have insurance/Medicaid- how can we help? Looking for suggestions.
  9. The ISDH Asthma Program recentlycreated five articles on asthma disparities in Indiana that are currently being distributed throughout the state. Three separate articles focused on the asthma disparities foundamong blacks, children and women.These articles are being distributed to newspapers that specifically target these populations. An additionalarticle was created to focus on the environmental aspects of asthma and was submitted to the Indiana Environmental Health Association. And the fifth article was created for an audience of health care providers and submitted for publication in several health care provider organization newsletters. Committee Updates:

Data & Surveillance- No report

Public Education- Report given by Trisha Dane- MediaCampaign - The Ad Council has distributed all of the 350 billboards we had printed. We were able to get some feedback from radio stations on placement of radio spots. Some stations are playing the spots multiple times per day. Thank you letters have been distributed to radio and TV stations that have played the spots. Additional follow-up to radio and TV is planned for Apriltoencourage stations to play the spots duringAsthma Awareness Month (May).

PrintCampaign -Appointmentcards, posters, bookmarks, and magnetsare available for distribution. Contact Trisha if you have an event or appropriate venue to distribute any of these materials. Medicaid partners have received materials to distribute to provider offices in targeted counties. Materials were also made available at the Indiana Head Start Conference and to all regionalIndiana Child Care Resource and Referral agencies for distribution to child care facilities. Libraries in targeted counties will be sent posters and bookmarks soon.

Resource Guide -A draft of the resources for the general public is complete. We are currently still working on resources for health care professionals.

Children & Youth- Report given by Julie Slavens- The report on the Child Care Asthma Survey Results has been completed and is posted on the InJAC website. The Indiana Asthma team for the CDC grant with the AASA/NSBA School Leadership on Asthma is in the process of collecting data on student absenteeism with respect to asthma and developing a further survey to determine disparities effects on absenteeism’s.

Environmental Quality- Report given byMarcie Memmer- The group has been working on the following 3 items: Slide presentation for the environmental section of the EPR:3; the group’s interest in moving InJAC forward in addressing legislative priorities for asthma, and increasing environmental hazards and asthma presentations.
