  6. Need to quantify information
  7. How many city ordinances have been passed with regards to asthma? This information can be found on the TPC website. We should add this information to the InJAC website.
  8. School data. Go through school nurses rather than superintendents. Schools don’t have information on how many sick days are due to asthma.
  9. Due to the School Indoor Air Act, there are certain things schools are required to do. (Each school must have an indoor air coordinator). Can we investigate and find out how many are doing these things? There is no state level fine or reporting.
  10. InJAC Can be the central source of asthma information.
  11. Toolkits for parents and students
  12. What to do if you think you child needs more care at school
  13. Begin sending articles to be published in school papers/media.
  14. Next Steps
  15. Look at EPA Tools for Schools. Begin to educate parents. Try to get teachers involved, such as health and PE teachers. At least once each year we will look at environment with their help.
  16. Ask if schools have a “No Idle” policy. School Bus Drivers – Dept of Transportation. See if there are “no idle” signs.
  17. Begin construction on survey for schools. How many have an indoor air coordinator?
  18. Once this survey is sent out, we can send the results to the Department of Education. They may use this to follow up with non-compliant schools.
  19. Put up a publication so parents can hold school accountable.
  20. Research laws on open burning and wood burners. Some information can be found on the Indiana Dept of Environmental Management.
