Initital Engine Company Operations April 2012

Overview and Purpose:

  1. It is important for firefighters of the Boone County Fire District to be proficient arriving as the initial engine company at a structure fire.
  2. Understanding proper radio traffic and accountability systems and having the opportunity to practice these skills will undoubtedly benefit the progression of events at structure fires.
  3. Firefighter safety will be emphasized and will be enhanced greatly through hands-on practice at a controlled setting.
  4. Firefighters will be challenged in critical thinking exercise scenarios to prepare them for the possibilities of being in the roll of initial engine company engineer or first arriving officer.

  16. Urban / Rural settings
  17. Radio Traffic
  18. Absorbing information from JCIC
  19. Communicating in a tactically sound and understandable way
  20. On Scene Communications –Tactical Channel
  21. Discuss “laying in”
  22. Mime till perfection the Stand-by Tactic
  23. Perform the following Tactics

  22. Crews not participating in the Tactic (staging) will be instructed by a ranking officer (Chief or Captain) on the decision making process
  23. After action debrief
  24. Once all evolutions are complete, the training coordinator will ask the incident commander to conduct a hot wash of the event with all participating members. During the evolutions, the IC, first arriving crew leader, and burn crew member will have helmet cameras on and capturing on scene footage. This footage will provide excellent feedback into how the evolution went.
