Health Science I

The Health Science courseis designed to provide for the development of advanced knowledge and skills related to a wide variety of health careers. Students will have hands-on experiences for continued knowledge and skill development. The course may be taught by different methodologies such as clinical rotation and career preparation learning. To pursue a career in the health science industry, students should recognize, learn to reason, think critically, make decisions, solve problems, and communicate effectively. Students should recognize that quality health care depends on the ability to work well with others. The health science industry is comprised of diagnostic, therapeutic, health informatics, support services, and biotechnology research and development systems that function individually and collaboratively to provide comprehensive health care. Students should identify the employment opportunities, technology, and safety requirements of each system. Students are expected to apply the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue a health science career through further education and employment.Professional integrity in the health science industry is dependent on acceptance of ethical and legal responsibilities. Students are expected to employ their ethical and legal responsibilities, recognize limitations, and understand the implications of their actions.

Grading

Test ( Unit) 40%

Daily Work, Labs, Projects and Notebook 60%

All students will have the option to retest on any test the students receives a failing grade; however this is a college prep class. If you do not retake the test when it is assigned you will not have the opportunity to retest. To do so, the student must attend the teacher’s designated study session or complete the designated review prior to the retest date. The highest grade possible the student can earn on the retest is a 70.

To be eligible for a retest, the student must attend one tutorial period at the teachers discretion and then retake the test within one week of receiving the failing test grade.

All assignments are due at the beginning of the class period.

If the student is absent on the day a project/major grade is due please visit with the teacher before hand or the day of (if you are sick) by email. Work not turned in by the due date will receive a maximum grade of 70 for one class period the assignment is late, and a maximum grade of a 50 for two class periods the assignment is late. Late work will not be accepted after two class periods. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Classroom Policies

  1. It is the student’s responsibility to find out what work was missed during an absence

  5. Eating, drinking and gum are NOT permitted in the classroom or the lab…

NO EXCEPTIONS

  1. Follow all posted safety rules
  2. Student are expected to complete their own work. Cheating, copying and plagiarism are not allowed. Suspicious work will receive a zero and parents may be contacted or referral to Assistant Prinicipal may occur (refer to Student Handbook for dishonesty rules.)
  3. No purses, or CELL PHONES, or bags are allowed on desk or lab during lecture, quizzes and test. If I see your cell phone out and your texting on social media or talking it will be taken up. There is a time and a place for cell phones, I’ll let you know when that is. If you have your cell phone out during a test and are using it (for music included) you will receive a 0 on the exam. If you require special circumstances please speak with the teacher.
  4. No talking after or during quizzes or test.
  5. Students should be in their seat and ready to work when the bell rings.
  6. Respect others at all times
  7. You are not allowed to be on any other site on your Ipad other than the site assigned for the period. NO PLAYING GAMES IN CLASS, IF I SEE IT YOUR IPAD WILL BE TAKEN UP!!!! NO EXCEPTIONS!!!! This includes social media sites as well.
  8. Class participation is encouraged.

At the beginning of the year there will be a lab safety test given out. The student must pass this lab exam to be allowed to perform any experiments throughout the year. The student and guardian must also sign the lab safety contract at the beginning of the year and it is to be kept in the class notebook.
