Assessment and Evaluation Practices

Course Work

Assessment of Learning for the overall Ontario Curriculum Expectations is based on each subjects’ specific objectives. Each subject has specific Criteria that have been developed and modified accordingly.

Criteria for each subject will be assessed based on one of the following scale

Levels 1 – 8

IB Level 1 is equivalent to Ontario R Remedial work is required

IB Level 2 is equivalent to Ontario Level 1, significantly below provincial standard

IB Level 3 is equivalent to Ontario Level 2, approaching provincial standard

IB Level 4 is equivalent to Ontario Level 3, Ontario Standard (70 – 79%)

IB Level 5 – 8 are ABOVE Ontario Standard.

To obtain levels 5 – 8, students must attempt to solve, or solve problems in UNFAMILIAR situations and/or analyze and evaluate information. This is very challenging. Asking middle years learners to do these tasks will promote higher level research and thinking skills, but may be difficult for students to achieve. We encourage parents to remind their child that LEVEL 4 is ONTARIO STANDARD, and encourage them to reflect on their learning regularly and set new goals.

In each subject, students will be given a level for each criterion. The level for each criterion reflects the student’s most consistent level of achievement throughout the course.

Criterion A [0-8]Criterion B [0-8]

Levels / Final Level
Student A / 3 / 4 / 5 / 4 / 4 / 4

** For students who do not complete a test or assignment, a “0” will be assignment. The “0” is used as a placeholder until the missed work is complete.

Once a final level has been established for each Criterion, an overall mark will be generated for that student. The final achievement level in each Criterion will be added together to determine the students final MYP Subject Grade in the subject
