Information for patients about our move to Baillieston Health Centre

  1. When is the surgery moving?

McGlone Practice, Shettleston will be relocating to Baillieston Health Centre on from 1st April 2017. You can continue to book appointments and use services at our existing surgery premises in Shettleston Health Centre as usual, in the meantime.

  1. Where is the Baillieston Health Centre surgery?

The Baillieston Practice premises is in Baillieston Health Centre, 20 Muirside Road, Glasgow G69 7AD. It is a 10 minute drive from Shettleston Health Centre. It is also accessible via public transport.

  1. What parking is available at Baillieston Health Centre?

There are a number of public car parking spaces including disabled car parking available in the patient car park, there is also side streets close to the health centre with unlimited parking.

  1. Is there a local bus route to Baillieston?

Coming from Shettleston Health Centre, the number 2 bus goes to South Scott Street approximately every 10 minutes during the day. From Edinburgh Road there is also the 38E.

  1. What alternative transport services are available?

Community Transport Glasgow Drivers use their own cars to allow easy access for patients, they can pick up direct from the patients door and drop them off at the preferred drop off point.

The Practice would register patients with the service, which then contacts the patient directly to establish any mobility issues the patient may have and allow them to offer the best type of transport for the patients requirements. Community Transport Glasgow offer other services that patients may be interested in.

Dial a Busis designed to help people who have difficulty using standard buses to have access to local facilities and amenities includingdoctor and health centre appointments.

All Dial a Bus vehicles are wheelchair accessible, with low floor ramp access at the front of the vehicle. The vehicle will pick up and drop off as near as possible to the patients home and chosen destination. The driver will assist the patient on and off the bus. If they require additional assistance they can bring a friend if they feel their support will help.

Dial a Bus is available to people who are unable to use or have difficulty in using standard buses and who meet any of the qualifying conditions below –

1. Receipt of any one of the following Department for Work and Pensionsallowances:

• Attendance allowance

• Disability living allowance – mobility component at the higher rate

• War pensioners’ mobility supplement (current proof of qualifying

benefit must be provided on application.)

OR

2. Registered as blind

OR

3. Over 80 years old

If none of the above apply but the patient has difficulty using standard public transport they may still qualify to use Dial a Bus Service.

Patients with a temporary disability such as a broken leg may apply for temporary registration for up to four months.

  1. What if I am Housebound?

Any housebound patients wishing to remain with the Practice will continue to receive medical care as clinically indicated.

  1. Are staff at the surgery changing?

No. Our team of staff at the surgery will remain the same.

  1. How do I collect my repeat prescription?

A number of local pharmacies have agreed to provide a collection service from Baillieston Health Centre, some also offering home delivery service. A list of participating pharmacies has been collated and our staff will be happy to advise on the setup process.

  1. What about other services at Shettleston Health Centre.

You will still be able to access your local community services at Shettleston such as X-Ray, Physiotherapy, Podiatry and Treatment room.

  1. What do I need to do?

If you wish to move with the surgery to Baillieston Health Centre then you do not need to take any action, as all your patient records will be automatically transferred to our new premises when we move.

You can continue to book appointments and use services at our existing surgery premises in Shettleston Health Centre as usual, in the meantime.

We hope that you will choose to stay with our surgery, but if you would prefer to register with another local GP practice, because this is more convenient for you, then you can choose to do so. Details of other local GP practices can be found on the patient information leaflet or direct from Greater Glasgow & Clyde NHS by telephoning 0141 300 1300. Our reception staff will be able to direct you through the process.
