30 Hour famine

30 Hour Famine is sponsored by the Christian relief organization, Word Vision ( Our goal is to try and raise approximately $100.00 for every young person who participates in this year’s famine. No young person is required to raise this amount. It is just an overall group goal. Each young person has been given a sample letter that can be mailed to family and friends explaining both the purpose and goal of our involvement in the 30 hour famine (

What will be provided:

The only refreshment that will be provided during the famine will be juice and water. No other food, snacks or beverages will be available, nor should be brought to this event.

One cup of rice will be provided prior to the barbeque to help kids realize what it must be like to get such a small portion of food after being hungry.

A barbeque lunch will be served at the conclusion of the 30 hour famine.

What not to bring:

A list of what to bring is given on the parent permission slip.

No ipods, radios, handheld video games, lap top computers allowed.

Food or snacks of any kind.

Sleeping and Restroom Arrangements:

Girls will sleep with an adult woman chaperone (ChristineRoberts) in the prayer room and office.

Guys will sleep in the fellowship hall with Pastor Carey as a chaperone.

Only the inside restroom will be used during this event. The restroom pass must be used when using the restroom. No one will be allowed outside the building during the night.

Movies and Games:

No ‘R’ rated movies or above will be shown.

Appropriate movies will be chosen in advance.

This event will include group and individual games.

All of the youth are encouraged to participate in the group games.

General Rules:

As always, respect the property of others. Don’t touch what is not yours.

This is a group event. Youth will be chaperoned at all times. Youth will not be permitted to go off alone or with a few friends during the event.

Water is always available. Juice will only be served at designated breaks.

Common sense and respect for others need to rule the day.

While the 30 Hour Famine is designed to be a fun event, the main purpose is to bring honor and glory to God by sacrificing for the good of others by fasting and working hard at the car wash fundraiser. Your attitude, words and actions should support this purpose.

Hopefully, this experience will cause you to draw closer to God, help you realize and appreciate the blessings He has given you and understand the needs of those less fortunate in the world today. Thanks for helping to save kid’s lives!
