INDUSTRY HEAVYWEIGHT BOB CHAMPNEY JOINS PROTEAN INVESTMENTS
FORMER Merrill Lynch veteran Bob Champney has teamed up with investment house Protean Investments.
Champney will help the specialist investment house further develop its uniquely wide range of investor solutions, with particular emphasis on macroeconomic dynamic index funds.
Mike Egerton of Protean says: “Having worked alongside Bob for a number of years, I’m absolutely delighted that we’ve been able to tempt him to join.
“Bob was one of the driving forces and head developer for the Merrill Lynch ELDeRS platform, one of the most successful in the industry.”
Bob’s career has involved a broad range of roles and responsibilities at senior level.

Champney will be based in Protean’s New Oxford Street office.

Michael Egerton
Mike has over 17 years’ experience in financial services during which he has been involved in all aspects of manufacturing and distributing structured products. His career started in the building society sector where he was responsible for fixed income trading, product development and balance sheet risk management. From here he was recruited to the structured product group at Merrill Lynch where he spent seven years before moving to head the UK & Ireland teams at Deutsche, DrKW and ABN AMRO.
Mike has always been at the forefront of new product ideas and platform development. He has a uniquely broad and deep expertise in the underlying derivatives, UK regulatory and taxation environment, and product wrappers.
Clive Moore
As a regular commentator in both the trade and consumer press, Clive is a well-known figure in the investment industry having written numerous articles and guides on structured product strategies.
He has 20 years’ experience in the investment industry and has been responsible for the manufacture and distribution of structured products in a variety of senior roles, latterly within his own consultancy advising both the UK and Offshore professional investment community. Clive’s pragmatic approach to building suitable and astute investment strategies is well respected by clients and counterparties alike.
James Mossman
Jim’s career spans 21 years and within that time he has had extensive experience of the financial services sector. Ranging from financial advisor, business development, discretionary management and investment consultancy, Jim has acquired a wide range of specific market sector knowledge and the practical application of business strategies therein. Having helped to establish the Quilter office in Leeds, Jim spent a short time at Brown Shipley before becoming a founding shareholder in an independent Discretionary Management business in Harrogate (Cardale Asset Management). Positioning the company within the IFA market significantly built assets under management from a start-up business and developed high quality professional relationships amongst the IFA community, discretionary managers as well as product/wrap providers effectively optimised the opportunities for new business in a rapidly evolving marketplace.
