Short Term Goal:
Ka will be able cross a standard lighted intersection by crossing with the surge of his parallel traffic while making crosswise/ counter clockwise crossings with 100% accuracy 2 times on three consecutive opportunities. /

Green Ln & Willowbrook / Aileen & John St.
1.  Baseline: Have Ka cross at intersection and ask questions about his concepts of traffic patterns. Do under ideal weather conditions.
2.  With a tactile map show and discuss verbal labels for directions of traffic, roads, corners and lanes.
3.  At intersection discuss what he hears and label appropriate sound lines while aligned for crossing.
4.  Going sighted guide have Ka determine surge of parallel traffic – pushing on guides arm to indicate appropriate time to cross.
5.  Shadow Ka completing 4 counter-clockwise crossings while playing “Intersection Base-ball”
6.  Data collect each trial for evaluation.
7.  Remediate and Practise any necessary skill not yet achieved. / April/07

May 30/07 / Ka was able to describe a cross intersection and that there were two roads that crossed making 4 corners. Knew corners would be labeled according to secondary cardinal directions, Given North could name the rest. Difficulty determining surge of parallel traffic and distinguishing turning cars. Hesitant to cross – lacked confindence. Good straight line crossing (uses vision).
By end of lesson he was able to detect surge of parallel traffic 3 out of 4 times. Knows to wait cycle if he cannot detect initial surge. Aligning, crossing, maintaining orientation all done with ease and with accuracy. Introduced clearing before stepping. Doesn’t yet understand the concept of entry lane-where cars turn into - near or out in front of his line of travel.
Ka practiced route to Max Milk. Needed verbal assistance in determining exact time to cross. Was having difficulties with the surge sounds and sound shadows.
Ka did very well today at all crossings encountered. He was able to cross at safe times at the “T” crossings along the route to Max Milk. He judges the traffic flow well and doesn’t have to have it totally quiet, but crosses with parallel flow. At lighted crossing he did 2/2 clockwise with 100% and 2/2 counter with 100%. Also crossed at Aileen and John with his parallel surge. Sill needed discussions about the concept of advance signals, and second surge. Introduced ‘touch-and-drag” to locate curb cuts at intersections.
