Procedure:

1.Watch the prescribed domestic battery video. Details in the video must be reported accurately. Officers must also use the information from their witness statements.

2.Write an arrest report narrative for the Campbell Domestic Batterycasethat includes at least 18points of the below 24.

Maximum Points for Each Issue:

21.A detailed description of the victim, (3-4 identifiers, and proof of battery)

22.A detailed description of the suspect (3-4 ID, and link to crime).

03.A general description of the vehicle including the license plate or VIN number.

04.A clear explanation of how the suspect vehicle was linked to the crime

05.A legal justification for the use of force during the arrest

26.Legal justification for seizing evidence on suspect or from inside the vehicle

27.A good documentation of the Miranda Rights Warning Procedure: if read, from a card, understood, waived, if witnessed, intoxicated? Pirtle, if needed.

48.Document the facts that satisfy ALL the elements of the crimes of domestic battery

and possession of marijuana.

49.Good detail on the follow-up investigation. Facts including:

Car impounded, by whom, towed by whom, where to, releasable?

Inventory, by whom, what items, turned over to whom, logged by whom?

Scene processed, by whom, evidence turned over to, prints & photos taken?

Incarcerated, what jail, what initial charges, by whom, who transported?

Witness/Victim statements taken?

Other officers’ supplemental reports collected, etc.?

410.General Writing Techniques (plus and minus categories):Plus areas – Understandable language used, focused on important issues, irrelevant matters deemphasized, made visual, medium or short paragraphs, logical progression, etc.

Minus – Use of run-on sentences or paragraphs. Use of “Officious” language, acronyms, abbreviations, police jargon, Ten Codes, legalese, etc. Substantial mistakes in grammar, punctuation or spelling. Omission of important Who, What, Where, When, Why and How information. Timeline or factual errors from video.

Using all CAPS, using first name only, failure to proofread.
