Inaugural Newsletter Kicks Off
Welcome to the inaugural edition of InterDoptee News. InterDoptee is a charitable organization that was founded by adult Korean adoptees who desired to address the academic and professional needs of the international adoptee community. Over the past 30 years, more than 250,000 children around the world have been adopted to parents living in the United States. Sixty-four percent of adoptees are girls and many come from China, Russia, South Korea, Guatemala, Ukraine, Vietnam and Kazakhstan. Every adoption is unique, but many adoptees share similar experiences in relation to identity formation, birth and adoptive family relations, misperceptions by the community at large, and balancing a dual reality.
Thanks to the efforts of adoptive parents, birth families, adoptees and adoption professionals, numerous support groups and social organizations have been established to represent all sides of the adoption triad (birth family, adoptive parents, adotees). InterDoptee recognizes and supports the invaluable work these individuals do to form a caring network that looks after the adoption population. What InterDoptee does is raise public awareness of adoptee needs through fundraisers and charity events. The money raised provides scholarships to adoptees hoping to achieve their academic or professional goals.
InterDoptee will send quarterly updates via e-mail or electronic newsletter. You may visit at our web site at anytime to learn more about the organization or find out the latest happenings within the organization. www.orgsites.com/tx/interdoptee If you know an internationally adopted person who would also like to be included on our listserv, please forward this newsletter and have him or her reply to us at and type “subscribe” in the subject line.
We are very excited about this upcoming year’s events. It would be an honor if you considered participating in the organization. We appreciate your support.
