IMPACTS OF POOR ROADS IN TWIC COUNTY

A fleet of JAM Vehicles stuck along Pawel Panyagor Road, during the wet season, wet road have negative impact to any economy in the world

In the recent months Twic East County, has seen a sporadic heavy down pour. Inspite the positive impact of the rain, bounty harvest in some part of the county, healthy livestock due to fresh green grass, and reduced levels of intense heat, the county also experienced, worse floods and some part of the county hard times, for instances, collapsed buildings(Tukuls), delapitaed infratructures, the most important; roads,

The roads that connects Twic East to the rest of the State, is made up of compacted, peat clays that hardens during the dry summer. During the rainy season, and increased transport activities the hardened clays is softened and washed away, as the rains intensify the clay are sogged, and further softened, causing vehicles to get stuck in mud, most road users in this situations, tend to spoil the road in the process of releasing the vehicle in soggy mud, and hence ponds and pot holes are created, hampering movement of the goods and services, the situation even worsen when there is floods

This year goods and sevices could not be delivered because of a completely dilapidated 6km stretch between Panyagor and Pawel, the commissioner for Twic East County Honorable Akoi Dau Jurkuch said, the stretch in the last four months, had disconnected the Twic East County Headquarter from the rest of county and other counties in the state, he added. Both passenger and commercial vehicles ended their journey in Pawel, and it was up to the passengers and businessmen to seek alternatives of reaching and delivering goods and services in Panyagor. He blamed the large trucks especially “woror” which said was the most destructive when it comes to roads in wet weather.

The honorable commissioner was on a tour on the 6km stretch between Panyagor and Pawel, to inspect the repair and patching of the dilapidated sections of the stretch, done by the aid of Ayat Road Construction Company.

He said not only was the government affected, but also the operating NGOs in the area, who their services was highly required by the community, NGOs programs in the area had been altered, and hampered by dilapidated roads, for instance Joint Aid Management, could not deliver food during general food distributions, to far reaching schools, and hence has a negative impact to education programs. Workshops and trainings on both livelihoods, and WASH activities could not be carried out, efficiently and so was the security to every citizen in Twic East with, that was caused by Athor rebels menace, as military personnel could not be deployed to the frontline on time, military personnel has to trek.

I call upon the government to assist in improving both the main and feeder roads in Twic East County, in order to improve delivery of good and service to every citizen in this county, This will not only open access to delivery of good services but also encourage economic growth of the county.
