The Long Island Infant Toddler Resource Center (LIITRC) is a collaborative project of the Child Care Councils of Nassau and Suffolk funded by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services. Our mission is to support those caring for infants and toddlers by providing resources, assistance on the telephone or at your program, and professional development opportunities.

Relationships Matter!!
This conference is specifically designed to provide child care providers, early care educators and families with the opportunity to learn more about factors that influence infant and toddler development such as physical environments, attachment and bonding, appropriate discipline strategies, literacy and communication, building trusting relationships with families, assisting the child with their individual strengths and challenges, as well as child care providers and families who are knowledgeable about resources and services available throughout their communities. OCFS Training Topics will be covered as well as CDA Topic Areas.
Keynote Speaker
Jeanine Fitzgerald
The Fitzgerald Institute of Lifelong Learning
Jeanine draws on more than 30 years of professional experience to empower teachers and parents to achieve more with children “at risk.” With experience as a certified teacher, mental health professional and mother of three grown children, she understands the promise of every child, as well as the diversity of their needs.
As a certified Human Behavior Consultant and specialist, and Owner of the Fitzgerald Institute of Lifelong Learning, Jeanine specialized in research-based strategies in educational leadership, relationship-building, motivation, preventing the factors that compromise the fulfillment of a child’s maximum potential and implementing positive interventions in “real life” settings. She understands the daily struggles and frustrations of educators and parents, and honors the “hero within” each individual she has the privilege to work along side.
Jeanine has worked with thousands of children, professionals and parents across the country. The settings have been varied and included keynote presentations for various Family and Children Associations. She has taught at the college level and has presented at many campuses. She is recognized on the federal level as an approved trainer in the fields of education, disabilities and mental health.
She is a published author of the book “The Dance of Interaction” and a national training program entitled “Education with Insight.”

1A.Different Children, Different Needs
“Children are not things to be molded, but people to be unfolded.” This workshop will explore the unique pattern of influence upon a child’s behavior and development, with particular detail on the inherited temperament. Together, we will explore the concept of “goodness of fit” between the child’s traits and those of the adult caregiver. This workshop is uplifting, empowering and fun!

2A.Why Good Work with Babies Means Good Work with Parents
Building strong relationships with parents as a gateway to supporting infant-toddler development!
This workshop will discuss the importance of relationships for the healthy development of infants and
toddlers. We will focus particularly on the parent - teacher relationship and how it can help assure better care for their children.

3A.The Influence of Natural Notes: Creating Opportunities for Development through Music in
Early Childhood Settings
Every early childhood professional can learn and use music experiences in their setting that support the child’s development and make the learning environment more engaging and rich. This session will present basic research on how the child’s brain responds to music and how the professional can incorporate the power of music in their work. This hands-on session will present and teach new songs and musical experiences created for development through music.

4A.Pediatricians Speak: Update on Childhood Vaccine and Vaccine Preventable Diseases; Early
Warning Signs Leading to the Detection of Autism & Pediatric Obesity Prevention
A panel of three pediatricians will discuss:An overview of currently administered routine vaccinations and issues regarding vaccine safety and vaccine preventable diseases with special attention paid to those most likely to affect children early in life. Secondly, this presentation will discuss various aspects of social emotional and general development as it relates to young children with autism and highlight the early warning signs that can lead to early identification and intervention. The third topic of conversation will discuss the childhood obesity epidemic, optimizing nutrition and physical activity opportunities in earlychildhood.

2B.Using Creative Music Strategies to Enhance Infant/Toddler Music and Movement
Come to this hands-on workshop where participants will be introduced to creative music strategies such
as exploring musical rhythms, incorporating the use of flannel boards, the use of props and puppets and
using instruments with young children – both rhythm and multicultural.

3B. Attachment Theory and the Caregiver’s Influence in Early Childhood Relationships
Attachment theory is based on the concept that an infant or young child needs to deeply connect with a primary caregiver in order to feel secure, stable and able to explore and develop. Understanding the nature of attachment and different parenting styles as explained by John Bowlby and Mary Ainsworth will offer you the information and tools to become a powerful influence in the relational world of the child.
