NWRA Meeting Minutes 2017
February 13, 2017
Meeting called to order at 6:46pm
In Attendance:Joni McSpadden, Harleigh McSpadden, Jonathan VanMersbergen, Natalie Barre
Connie Kudsk, Marla Gese, Barb Walton, Beanie Coons, Cathi Anderson, Sue Muir, Alaina O’Regan
- Treasure Report:
- Checking- $7,010.19
- Savings- $4205.14
- Total- $11,215.33
- Show Committee:
- Still need to get a judge booked for the fourth show.
- Patterns-
- Sue stated that she will make sure classes 15, 16, and 17 are different patterns, which entails switching up the novice classes and Randy Barr. Other than that everything else is fine.
- Newsletter:
- The newsletter will be mailed out to people.
- Joni said she will find pictures to fill in some places on the newsletter, and it will be ready soon.
- Sponsorship:
- Debby Warren is sponsoring $100
- Beanie stated that WRHA said they would love to sponsor us. This will be looked into more.
- Joni and Brad McSpadden said they will be sponsors again.
- Possibly Kevin Montgomery would like to sponsor as well.
- Tough Tango is sponsoring
- Joni said she will ask Shawn about sponsoring.
- Marla made a suggestion that the county representatives ask businesses and people in their area to sponsor.
- Joni stated that her sister might sponsor with her truck company. Joni said she would ask.
- Fundraising:
- There was not much discussion about fundraising, but the position is still empty.
- Under “New Business” is where you will find information for Clothes for Cause.
- Website:
- Marla looked over the website and thought it looked good, but will take a closer look at it.
- Joni made some fixes to the website.
- Joni still needs contact information, and will ask Linda for that information.
- Facebook:
- Beanie stated that there are new people liking the NWRA Facebook page and the posts.
- Clinics:
- Marla stated that Alecia asked her if she could help coach Ranch Riding at the clinic. There was no further discussion, but there is an available option for a trainer.
- Beanie stated to get a few trainers to do the clinic, like Sue Sultzie. Beanie also suggested to have the clinic mid-summer, July.
- Could also have the clinic next spring.
- The clinic could have one trainer or a few depending on what might work best.
- Marla stated a concern that there might not be enough people to show up at the clinic.
- Sue stated that the clinic should have a Reining trainer and a Ranch Riding trainer.
- Old Business:
- Rulebook-
- Marla is redoing the rulebook.
- The bylaws are being retyped
- Most of the changes are being redone around “No Shows”.
- Changes for Page 5-
- No changes are necessary
- Changes for Page 6-
- Marla stated there were contradictions on “Refunds” and “No-Shows”, therefore all of 2(B) can go.
- Motion to strike section 2(B) out completely.
- Sue Muir made motion and Joni McSpadden seconded the motion.
- The motion was carried.
- Sue Muir made motion to strike section 2(C).
- Sue Muir made motion and Beanie seconded.
- Changes for Page 7-
- On section 1(D) Marla had a question that if you win a beginner class can you go back to other beginner patterns. Which was answered with you cannot go back to a lower class once you win.
- Then Natalie brought up that there were a few people that probably should not have been showing in the beginner class.
- Natalie suggested on putting limitations on the Beginner A, B, and C classes, but there was no further discussion.
- Throughout the whole rule book get rid of “borrowed or leased horse” and just keep “leased horse”.
- On section 1(B) beginner rider may ride a leased horse.
- Have this in the Newsletter.
- Lease should be allowed for every Non-Pro class.
- Motion to strike borrowed in section1(B), and section 1(D) if you win class Beginner B or C you are not eligible in that class and Beginner A.
- Sue Muir made motion and Joni McSpadden seconded.
- Motion was carried.
- Sue stated that Non-Pro should be the same as NRHA standards.
- Sue Muir moves to have Non-Pro match NRHA standards.
- Sue Muir makes motion and Beanie Coons seconded.
- Motion was carried
- Natalie stated that should the rider be able to go to beginner and novice after three years are up from being a trainer.
- Motion to add to B(1) a (h): Riders in Beginner A, B, and C must be Non-Pro according to NRHA rules, except that they may not have taught lessons in any disciplines.
- Motion made by Sue Muir and Beanie Coons seconded.
- Motion was carried.
- Changes for Page 8-
- Section 5(b) is a duplicate paragraph that was already stated in section 5(a).
- Sue stated that limited Non-Pro earnings has changed a lot, so have a flat dollar amount.
- Motion to change earnings from $1,050 to $1,000 in section 6(a) and in section 7(a) change $3,000 to $5,000.
- Sue Muir made motion and Beanie Coons seconded.
- Motion was carried.

- Change money to $1,000 and $5,000

- For section 2(c) put information about leasing in newsletter.
- Motion made to under “Deadlines” 3(b) to strike “4 days”.
- Sue Muir made motion and Joni McSpadden seconded.
- Motion was carried.
- Sue wanted under section 2(c) to read: Prior to first show attended.
- Connie Kudsk made motion for in section 2(a) to add: Money earned on any association towards Reining and Ranch Riding count towards earnings.

- Changes to Page 13-
- No changes are necessary.
- Changes to Page 14-
- Change the volunteer requirements to two shifts instead of one.
- Changes to Page 15-
- Sue Muir made motion to strike the sentence(s), in section 2(e) starting with “High point” and ending with “will break the tie”. Keep the rest the same, but change the word “split” to “average”.
- Sue Muir made motion and Beanie Coons seconded.
- Motion was carried.
- New Business:
- Beanie got all of the necessary contact information for the Clothes for Cause.
- Beanie stated the idea to have all youth rider to be a part of the Clothes for Cause, Marla then stated that there was already a lot of helpers in the past year. Joni stated the idea of having the youth help unload the storage unit the Friday before the show. There was not a final decision on this.
- Sue stated that at a later meeting to revisit job description due to the fact that the show manager and show chair were getting blended.
- Sue needs to get the pattern updates to Marla, and Joni will put them on the NWRA website in a PDF.
- There will be a Freestyle at the June show, and there will be two skill levels.
- Natalie stated to have a Round Robin clinic for the Freestyle event, and Marla stated to have it be open to other people. There will be more consideration later.
- Marla stated to try to have a phone conference for the next meeting.
Sue Muir made motion to adjourn, and Connie Kudsk seconded the motion.
