Dear Parents/Guardians of Future Transitional Kindergarten Students;
As you are aware Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District (FSUSD) offers a Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program to five year olds. This year, the State revised its guidelines allowing districts to expand TK to all students who turn five during the year preceding their eligibility for kindergarten. Fairfield-Suisun revised its policies to allow for all five year olds to be served in TK. There are some parameters to this expanded eligibility for TK which are outlined in this letter. It is important for parents/guardians to understand these changes.
All families who desire to have their child attend TK in the 2016-17 school year are strongly encouraged to register their child at their school of residence as soon as possible after the registration window opens on January 25, 2016. Registered TK students whose birthday falls within the State TK eligibility window (students with birthdates between September 2, and December 2, 2011) will be enrolled in the TK program at their school site. Registered TK students who turn five after December 2, will be placed on a wait list for placement, based upon available space, after May 15, 2016.
Currently, FSUSD intends to offer a TK program at each elementary site for the 2016-2017 school year. TK classes may be combined across schools if there is not a full class of students, or if facilities do not allow for the additional class. This means that some schools may not have a program and those applicants will be offered a spot at another school. Determination of whether or not a class is offered at a school will be made by June 1, 2016.
Fairfield-Suisun Unified is excited about this opportunity to provide a high quality educational experience for this wide range of Transitional Kindergarten students. We look forward to seeing your child in our classrooms this August.
If you have additional questions, please contact your school site or the Elementary Education Department at 707-399-5053.
Sincerely;
Roxane Jablonski-Liu
